Sound chain for lpfm station

Hello fellow broadcasters!

This is my situation. I have an omnia one for my station processing. It sounds very good but i have some issues with the levels. The sound is not constant. My audio goes from the console to a barix box via the internet to another barix box into the omnia and then the transmitter. What can i use to normalize my levels without over processing the station?

Thanks

Best idea would be contact omnia support. You might tweak with the make up gain, but they can make suggestions. What did you use to rip your audio and were the files normalized? You can always get a used compellor or the King of AGC's, the Ariane...But talk to support,1st.What model Barix boxes are you using?Hope you're not using the dreaded MP3 for on air.(Love that whising sound). But i suppose you are since you're using the net.Do you have clear line of sight to the tower? If so i would get me a pair of Nanostation M5's and get off the net...Contact Mark or corny at Omnia.Happy trails to you...

An AGC/safety limiter before the Barix stream encoder will help you maintain more constant levels and will also help prevent clipping distortion in the Barix. It's not necessary to be very aggressive with the studio AGC. You just want something to gently ride gain for you, but if something unexpectedly hot comes along, you want it to limit properly so that you don't get nasty distortion out of the other end. There are a lot of choices for this sort of gear, ranging from about $100 to $1000+ stuff.

A nice used stereo compellor at the studio would be a good idea. If you're using the Omnia One, on many presets the AGC isn't very aggressive. I'd try turning up the wideband AGC drive a bit and see if it works better for you. Don't modify the preset but save it to a new file in case you want to go back.
