SOUND CODES - MOOD ENERGY etc etc

Hey People,

I'm about to undergo the task of re-loading a complete database (songs/links/spots etc) for a Rhythmic/CHR station. We are using Nexgen/G-Selector..

Interested in hearing from anyone willing to share their interpretations of soundcodes etc...

The main reason for the new database is because of the hardware change, BUT we are also in serious need of some Sound Code refinement...

Any advice.... Anything...

Im interested

Look forward to your replies

Sound codes should be reflective of the full range of the types of music you play. Try to find the extremes within your library, and use those to frame the various sound codes.

Regardless of how/what you choose, the absolute, most important thing, is to BE CONSISTENT. No two opinions on this will be the same. But as long as you pick a route to take, and stick with it for the entire library, you'll be able to get Selector to do some good things for you in scheduling.

Good luck!

Agree with these notes, and want to add:

If you make it a point to have 5-6 sound codes, it can help you setup rules that allow a perception of variety in each quarter hour. Pop, Hip hop, R&B, Dance, etc. Latin maybe, depending on your market and if you play stuff like Pitbull, or other artists that release bi-lingual songs.

Also, depending on your market, you may want to create a Property Code for "cume" which would be used to mark songs heard on other stations in the market. This helps you setup rules to make sure you never play X number of songs without playing one of your exclusive songs, etc.

Look beyond sound and mood, and think of other ways you can help your music rotate more healthy.... especially on a tight-playlist format like Top 40.

My .02 cents.
