sound processing 100.3 The Sound

I wonder what they The Sound using for there 'Sound' processing equipment? Sounds easy, clean but loud.

Wait till "Album Sides Wednesday" comes around again, where they brag about the snaps, crackles and pops you hear all afternoon because they insist on playing album sides off of vinyl. Note to Sound management: You may think you're keeping it real or old school or something, but on Album Sides Wednesday, the sound quality is terrible and I turn your station off and listen to my own CDs. This is somewhat of an indictment because I am a radio nerd who would rather listen to the radio first and only play my CDs as a last resort. But you give me no choice.

Ok I'll try it tomorrow, but that's not the answer on my question.

I am not sure if they are doing it tomorrow. They only do it one Wednesday a month, and it is usually towards the end of the month.

They are rolling Album Side Wednesday tomorrow. I heard Larry Morgan plug it during 10@10.

Vinyl has the ability to sound great, BUT only IF the vinyl is in good enough condition. I haven't heard Album Sides Wednesday yet, but there are a couple of things they could do.
1) Spend more time with quality control and find clearer vinyl.
2) Lighten up the processing just a bit for Album Sides Wednesday. It's very possible that there is just too much compression in the chain and that is making the vinyl sounds worse than they really are. Vinyl (especially classic vinyl) already has added compression so the needle won't jump off the record during a booming bass entry, for example.

Their channels are reversed!

Their channels are reversed.

Listen to a Beatles CD and you'll find the vocals always on the right channel.

On The Sound they're always on the left....

Isn't it a mistake for them to make a big deal off of playing Album Sides Wednesday, or anything else for that matter, off of vinyl? I gotta believe they are trying to influence audiophiles who probably make up less than one percent of their audience. My guess is the other 99% couldn't care less, they just want to hear the classic rock they tuned in to hear. So why put so much time and effort into trying to influence 1% of the audience? And among the audiophiles I am aware of, there is a significant debate as to whether vinyl really does produce that "warm sound" they constantly refer to, or if it is just all in the listeners mind and CDs can have just as warm a sound as vinyl.

I am definitely not an audiophile and personally can't tell any "warm sound" one way or the other, but I can hear the snaps, crackles, and pops when they use vinyl and it is highly annoying. My guess is if I can notice this irritation, others can too, even in the great unwashed other 99%.

It's all imaging, channelflipper.

For all we know they are playing cd's with a scratchy record sound effect.
I have heard from friends who are not audiofiles "hey, isn't it cool that The Sound is playing album sides off vinyl?"

It's all the creation of an illusion. Anybody could pop a cd into their deck and hear the same thing and they wouldn't say "hey, I'm playing an entire album!"

They have a turntable in the studio simply for the album Wednesdays. It isn't a "scratched" sounding CD.

Ok fine all these comments about last wednesday vinyl day but I have no answer on my question yet so I can better change the subject of this topic to sound quality Vinyl Wednesday or something...

So another try: what is 100.3 The Sound using for soundprocessing equipment?

I don't know a thing about the Sound's processing, but from a radio/music fan's (but not insider's) perspective, I definitely notice The Sound is much quieter than the other stations on my presets. They should work on that - there is a subconscious sense of "blah" when one station is quieter.
