Sound Processing Freakday 2011

@All:

The photo's and recordings (.flac) are online on our website!

www.processingfreakday.com

The recordings include:
Vorsis VP8-plus
Vorsis Airaura
Orban 8500
Orban 8600
Omnia 6 exi
Omnia.11
Omnia.9 by (made by Leif ;) )
Breakaway broadcast Asio

They're all recorded with a custom made version of MPX-tool...
Offcourse we know that, how much you like each sample that we've recorded, is preset dependeble... so please don't judge based on only these recording!
If you really want to know what's inside the processors please demo them! ;D

Recordings / presets based upon 50us settings.
Please open them with mpx tool regarding to de-mod. / de-emph. (if you have the full version of mpx tool, you can see the ITU loudness levels as well.)

That's too bad they're all 50us. It would have been nice to hear them with some 75us pre-emphasis as well, since America is going to be where a vast number of these boxes will be sold. There is a big difference in the HF behavior when using 50us, the limiters and clippers have less to do (about 4dB at the upper end of the spectrum) Also, the ITU limiter changes how things will sound against a US station running "wide open".

I know this was a European event, but a few 75us files could have been made.

Maybe we need to organize one here in the US? Anyone else want to go in on it?

No ITU BS.412 limiting was applied here. Just 50 µs pre-emphasis, instead of 75 µs.

I'd just like to thank the organizers for putting up a great show! :) I had a great time in Wersello!

Moreover, I believe these kinds of events are very useful for the industry such as broadcast audio processing. Particularly when so many key people converge in the same place and present their latest products, explain them in depth and offer insights in the magical world of audio processing :) It helps expand and strengthen the niche market of audio processing and is useful for the processing brands just as much as it is for the end-users, customers and processing enthusiasts.

It would definitely be interesting if the event like this was also held in USA and I've heard this idea mentioned a couple of times.

The event in Europe however, perhaps helps designers (that are mostly from the USA market and therefore perhaps traditionally oriented to that market) get a a bit of a different perspective, hear how their boxes run with 50 µs pre-emphasis and what people in Europe want and expect from on-air sound.

I don't know how much interest there would be, but for example the AES convention has two events, one in Europe and the other in the States and maybe this is an example that could be followed.

Goran Tomas

That's why I missed you, you were in Wersello and we all were in Weerselo ;)
All jokes aside, I think days like these are key to customer bonding.

Maybe we should setup the next processing freakday in the USA.... ;D
By all means: it's our "baby" and we hate to see anyone else organize it... ;)
We would'nt want to change the identity of the day... as you can see on our website... the PFD is born as an underground "event", and we would like to maintain that idea! otherwise it's just no fun!

Ofcourse we do need a companion in the US... so feel free to mail me if you're interested in setting up this fun event!

That would be awesome; the attendance would be huge if you held it in the US. I read that 400 people attended the 2011 event? I believe we could easily achieve 1000 or more here!

One of the big success points in the Netherlands is that it’s not a big country. Furthermore most of the processing enthusiasts live in a particular area. It’s harder to get everybody together in a widespread country like the US. Nonetheless it should be fun and interesting to see if they are as mad and fanatic on the other side of the Atlantic. :)

We could just hold it at the Burning Man festival. Nothing says "Freakday" like 50,000 hippies gathering in the desert.

Alas there is no electricity, but you are allowed to bring your own generator.

Well.. Actually, 200 Dutch pirates / audio freaks does say Freakday more than 50,000 hippies. Perhaps we'd better leave it to the dutch :).
