Soundbooth CS4 for Mac-audio "in"

I have a Mac with Adobe Soundbooth which I believe is a far cry (worse) that Adobe Audition or even the old Cool Edit for P.Cs. This new(er) one doesn't even reverse audio. Why would you upgrade & not keep all the old handy tools?
Anyway, I've tried every input possible & cannot get audio to record from a mic OR input plug. I have to record it somewhere else & email it to myself & open it.
1. Any other Mac users have the same problem?
2. What would be the best alternative sound editor for a Mac that's most like the old Audition? (Garage Band is the same way, it only lets you edit-not record) Thanks!

I have SoundBooth CS3 and CS4 which were touted as "Audition for the Mac" and as far as I'm concerned it sucks! I feel I got ripped off, not to mention I have to use Boot Camp and Windows XP to use my trusty Audition 1.5 (I never warmed up to the newer interface). Adobe is writing Audition for the Mac and I certainly hope it's much better than SoundBooth ever was.

It sounds like you might have multiple inputs and/or audio hardware connected to your computer. Go to the Preferences -> Audio Hardware choice under the Adobe SoundBooth CS4 menu and check to see what is the selected hardware input there. This sounds like it may be the thing causing you grief.

Thanx, Bill-I'll try...something else I don't like about SB...you can't record internally from, say, YouTube audio directly into SB. You are correct sir, it sucks!

Got an Intel Mac? Dual-boot it. That's what I do to run Audition.

And don't hold out hope on the "new Mac version" of Audition being anything close to what the PC version is. You've already seen a sample of it with SB.

I don't think that is necessarily a fault with SB as this is pretty common on most platforms. You can use something like Jack audio connection kit to patch audio from one application to another (and Jack is available not only for Mac, but for Windows and *nix systems too).

I do dual-boot and it's alright but not convenient for me. I haven't used anything newer than Audition 2.0 on the PC so it's hard to compare apples to apple, but Adobe is currently testing Audition for Mac for release later this year. I've seen a test version and it seems more stable that SB had been - it's just going to be hard to give up the simplicity of the Audition 1.5 interface.

So I need Bootcamp and VMWare Fusion to get Windows & Adobe 1.5 on the Mac?

To load Windows on a Mac you need either Boot Camp (if you plan to boot into each operating system separately) or VMWare if you plan to run Windows in a virtual machine while booted in the Mac operating system. Then you can run Audition for Windows or any other Windows app on the Mac.

A native version of Audition is currently being written and tested by Adobe, although it looks like it will have the new user interface like later versions of Audition for Windows. I still like 1.5 for being clean and simple as far as the interface goes.
