SoundExchange Seeks Permission to Distribute Royalties Based on Proxy Informatio

The biggest problem with a 'proxy' distribution of funds is that the class of webcaster which opts-out of reporting spins and artist data may be playing a different kind of music. This option is popular with educational institutions, and the types of indie artists which appear on college radio could be the ones to suffer. Still, they clearly have to distribute funds, even with incomplete or flawed information.

SoundExchange has lots of critics, sometimes for good reason. We should encourage them to distribute all that dough to the people who've earned it.

Not to mention that SE is also STILL trying to collect royalties on stuff that's IN THE PUBLIC DOMAIN such as Old Time Radio shows.

It's as if they've somehow taken the HORRIBLY misguided notion that YOU STREAM IT - YOU PAY TO DO IT !!! It doesn't what "It" is to SE

But that doesn't mean they should be allowed to get away with the aforementioned mentality they have. They should be made to PROVE the copyright status of things. Otherwise, all you're doing is giving them free "Willy Nilly" authority to collect monies when & where NO SUCH MONIES ARE EVEN OWED

As a broadcaster & now PODCASTER of OTR shows, I'll continue to bang this tambourine UNTIL SOMETHING IS DONE to put SE back in line. IT IS RIDICULOUS

Cheers :D
