Sounds To The Zone

This was reported in both the Tennessean and Nashville City Paper several months ago and IIRC, it was even posted on this message board at the same time.

pretty sad when you cant hear your home town Sounds on radio for full season.......damn zone needs to step up to the plate and give us full season....this will be first time in Sounds history that full season not on radio...whats up with that

I agree, and it would also be nice for 560 to do some Nashville Metros matches like they did in the 90s. Even though they play in what you would call "Single-A soccer" and haven't made the postseason in four years, This franchise deserves some respect. This would be the team's 20th straight season in franchise history, including the 2 years the team was called the Tennessee Rhythm, which is longer than any other U.S. soccer franchise current or defunct. Only a few AA or AAA soccer franchises have 15+ years of history at the most, and the 9 existing original MLS franchises are playing their 14th season. Not only that, the commentary on those matches was spot on. Heck, if they held tryouts for a new "Voice of the Metros", I would give it a shot!

Actually, it's not the first season. There have already been some Sounds seasons sans the comprehensive schedule. However, all games will be broadcast via Internet stream.

As a fan, though, I'd prefer all of the AWAY games to be broadcast on the radio. However, I do understand the economics and the promotional value for the station and the Sounds when the home games are broadcast.

This is just one more example of why the Zone needs a sister AM. Citadel would have a lot to gain if they could parlay a station swap by shedding an AM or two in another market where an AM isn't quite as useful to them but more useful to another group. Then they'd have a place for more Sounds games, conflict hockey games, UT Women's Basketball, and more of the ESPN Radio schedule. They could take a cue from ESPN and call the station "Zone 2".

The Zone is trying to be all things to all people. Sounds games will go into the fall and some will be on Saturday nights and Sunday afternoons/nights. What will this do to UT, the Titans and other sports The Zone is under contract to carry?

UT and Titans win. Sounds know this, but prefer to have as many games as possible available to the Zone's audience. That's why Sounds are willing to pay for it.

Did I read somewhere that the Zone was the highest rated sports talk station in the country? Was that from the latest books?

The Sounds' Home Opener is being pre-empted tonight on the Zone because of the Predators' play-off game against the Chicago Blackhawks, as will games on next Tuesday and Thursday night because of the Predators play-off games. I don't know about Sunday's games because I don't sure when the Sounds play on Sunday, if it is an afternoon game or an evening game.

Also, next Thursday's Sounds game would have been pre-empted due to the first round of the NFL Draft, as the Zone would have been covering the draft up until the Titans selection at #16, which would be a couple of hours into the draft.

This is a perfect example of what I said several days ago. The Zone is trying to be all things to all people. It just doesn't work.

I like the suggestion of teaming up with another station to carry some of the teams so, hopefully, no one is pre-empted.

You will never know what is on the air because the web site is never right!

I find that the program listing on the Zone's website is frequently correct. If "frequently correct" is 90 percent of the time correct, well then it's helpful 90 percent of the time. If I'm checking the schedule any time during that 90 percent, then I think it's great. The problem comes when I'm trying to check the schedule during the time period it's not correct. Very frustrating!

What the Zoners don't seem to understand is just how important publishing the correct schedule is when you host a lot of play-by-play and run special programs — this week they have the Preds in the NHL playoffs, Sounds games, and NFL draft coverage — and the schedule posted is from last week! How am supposed to know what's on and when? (Yes, I know, the Zoners would say "listen" and you'll know. However, I listen a lot and I still can't keep up. Please Zoners, keep that schedule up to date!)

So true jet! I know in the past it has been said that the Zone "Heads" did not like Fox Sports and wanted to fill up as much off prime with games and such and seems to be the same thinking with ESPN.Ok fine but at least keep your web site current! Come on Mr PD do your job!

You're post is sort of what Jim Rome calls "banging the monkey", except you haven't called the business line to the Zone to complain yet!
