SOUR GRAPES OUT EAST?

I'm out east for President's Day weekend, and I thought I'd take a listen to 101.7 The Beach. I haven't heard much about them since their re-launch with some of the old Party jocks and Steve Harper from BLI.

They have made a complete transition to 100% pop, a bit of a surprise for me, but what really got me was the sweeper I just heard, that first states "you'll hear this (insert pop song), and this (insert another pop song) and this (insert yet another pop song)." That's not very notable, but then that was followed by:

"You WON'T hear this ( a clip of insane trance/ dance music) or this (the sound of an effeminate man howling)."

Interesting jabs at Party 105 and WBLI (as that second piece was certainly a mock of Randy from the BLI morning show). Otherwise they don't seem to be showing many signs of life. What happened to their staff? Another case of mass cutbacks and firings? Just curious, because they seemed to be looking to compete last year at this time.

Sounds like Harper is trying to piss some people off. It has a little David Vs. Goliath feel. Good for Harper. He has nothing to lose. Might as well go after the big boys. Well... the big boys (BLI) and Party.

The reason they "wont hear this", is because noone is listening to The Beach. harper has nothing to lose but also nothing to gain.

Beach should just go back to that Hot AC format they had back when they were on 104.7. Might as well move back to 104.7 too, that had a better signal in the eastern Hamptons.

Beach FM won't return to 104.7

Which is now Mohegan Sun Radio. That station will swap dial positions next week with an FM talker out of SE Connecticut.
