South America to North America DX

Has anyone ever pulled in an FM from South America, or Vise Versa, been in South America, and pulled in an American FM Broadcast. I would think it would be quite possible in the southern and south western states I heard ARUBA station Magic 96.5, in South Florida, when Power 96 was knocked off the air. Aruba is almost in South America, but not quite.

At Quito, Ecuador in the late 60´s I had a site at about 13,000 feet AMSL where we had a tuner installed as a backup STL (FM from city to the FM site, then put on the big FM signal). During maintenance, I would often try to find other FM stations on the tuner, occasionally getting an STL or something from Colombia, but never anything from North America.

BTW, Aruba is considered a coastal islando of the South American continent, just as the Florida Keys are part of North America.

You can almost see Venzuela from the southern tip of Aruba it is that close.

You know, I don't specifically recall a South American on FM (I am sure there have been loggings; I just wasn't paying attention), but I have seen TV loggings listed many times.

Low-band TV from Caracas is seen in Florida quite often. The distance from Miami to Caracas is just under 1400 miles, certainly within sporadic-E distance. So, I am sure that FM from there makes it often, even if no one hears it.

And, of course, the door swings both ways. If Venezuela is making it into North America, NA signals will be making it to the shores of South America.

There is also the possibility trans-equatorial scatter has been seen in South Florida on FM much deeper into South America. But, that would be pretty exotic.
