South Asian FM Format in LA?

I have a client looking to buy a weekly 4-5 hour block on an L.A. FM station to broadcast South Asian (think India) music and talk.

Any leads would be great appreciated. You can send me a private message through this board.

KALI used to have Indian programming back in the day (my parents are from India, but I'm to white-washed..hehe). KALI seems to be all Vietnamese now. I believe KPWR HD and now KWSD HD have some sort of South Asian programming as well. I don't know if any other station brokers besides AM radio

If you are interested in the comparison with Britain, South Asian is quite a big format on AM here, although not really a growing one anymore.

London has 3 full time South Asian stations, all commercial. Leicester and Birmingham have two (1 from the BBC and 1 commercial service) and Manchester and Bradford have one commercial radio station for South Asians each. I think Glasgow has one too.

The BBC Asian service is available nationally on digital radio too.

Your point about being 'white-washed' is a good one though. The trend is slowly moving away from Asian radio among the younger generations.

I think the demographics in UK are a little different...the South Asians appear to be more traditional and thus probably more demand for South Asian Radio. Same is true with New Jersey area and I believe there is at least one full time Hindi/South Asian station there.

So where does "Brimful of Asha" fit... sort of half way?

Wasn't Clear Channel re-purposing one of their HD2 channels to a South Asian format?

I believe Emmis has some kind of Radio Desi format on an HD in several markets.

Haha...I heard that song the first time on Y-107 and thought, I think they are talking about that Indian movie singer from back in the day.
