xm 32 the message bye bye torch :(

The Message - XM 32 - Christian Pop & Rock
It's music with a powerful and positive message. An uplifting mix of Christian pop and rock hits from the 80s through today including Mercy Me, Amy Grant, Steven Curtis Chapman, Michael W. Smith, Natalie Grant, Jeremy Camp.

they are combining the two!! as a person that always fought to get a christian rock show on an ac station i worked at i will have to say ..this is stupid!! they are alienating both audiences!! rock and pop!! i dont want to hear amy grant and i am sure most 35 year old moms dont want to hear demon hunter :) as a business decision this was really stupid!! someone who has never worked christian radio came up with this idea!! now i understand what e was saying about mixed stations!!! oh, and about everyone else on here that is ACTUALLY in radio..
______________

Hmm.... let me take a minute and absorb.

Ok...first...I'm not familiar with this specific format change or the details behind how the decision was made.

BUT...if this promotional announcement represents the station, I don't believe you will be hearing a hybrid of grant/demon hunter. Sounds like the rock being plugged here is Camp. Again, without seeing their playlist or knowing what their clock will look like, and going only on this promotion...could be just a hot AC or "hotter" AC.

We'll need more info to know for sure.

I think its a re-branding of the current "Fish" I dont think they will be playing Demon Hunter, POD, Pillar etc...

The Torch while leaving the satellite radio service will be still accessable thru XM Online/AOL and thru DirectTV (its not on direct tv currently) so The Torch will still live, just not in it's present location on the sat, The Torch could come back to XM sat in the future if there is DEMAND for it.

People need to contact XM and say bring back the torch, This happened with one of the new channels they are adding (was one they removed prior)

I don't beleive you'll be hearing hard Rock on the new XM 32 "The Message" to me it sounds like a rebranding of the current Fish channel.

I've been an XM subscriber for 2 years - specifically for The Torch. When I heard about this yesterday, I wrote down my subscriber ID and prepared to cancel. Does anyone know if this is an XM decision or a Salem decision? Who do we contact? Oh, btw smashedcd, there are a few of us 35+ year old moms who like Demon Hunter :)

Re:Message from Direct TV - Hello Torch:(

If you have Direct TV look for the Torch to arrive on your TV April 17th. 15 million potential listeners, I have family that only listens to music on Direct TV.
This is exciting for the Torch so don't cry and feel sorry for them. XMLM I was told was brought back by popular demand. Concerning XMLM It's great to know that a voice is heard when the cry goes out. You can send your objections to XM Radio in regards to The Torch being removed by emailing http://www.xmradio.com. Let them know you are upset.

Salem has not had their hands in the Christian formats (Music wise) for awhile.

XM does those in house now (XM manages The Message (formerly, The Fish) The Torch, Enlighten and Spirit.) Salem handles the "talk format" (FamilyTalk XM170). So this is not a salem issue. You should contact XM and share your feelings about their changes. They do listen to customers, one of the channels they are bringing back is because of customer demand.

Best thing to do is go to http://www.xmradio.com/ and go to the contact link and express your feelings. The more that express their feelings towards the Rock format, the better chance it has to coming back on XM satellite and not DTV/AOL/Internet Only.

the reply from xm radio

i was right..please read..here is the responce i got :

Thank you for contacting XM Satellite Radio.

The music you enjoy is not being removed from XM Satellite Radio. All the music heard on The Torch will be heard on channel 32. This channel is changing its name to The Message and will combine the music heard on both The Fish and Torch.
______________

Well, it was almost unlistenable before, so I'm not sure just how different it'll be. ;)

Uh, yeah...can't wait for the Chris Christian - Demon Hunter - Sandi Patty segues....(yes, based on what is already done, it could be just that bad; this is one place SIRI has the clear advantage.)

I have xm through Direct TV. What happens to "The Fish" (soon to be "The Message") on just Direct TV? Will "The Torch" be added as an extra channel to the Direct TV lineup, or will it wind up on channel 826, replacing "The Fish"?

Sounds like they're creating a Christianized version of "Jack"... just plug anything and everything into the system, click "SHUFFLE" and let 'er rip.

Gag.

This would be the equivalent of mixing your "Top 40" music station with an AOR. "All trainwrecks, all the time!"

Willie...

Re:Message from Direct TV - Hello Torch:(

I understand from Thomas Augustus at the Torch that they will be added to Direct TV because of many requests. Everything else is to stay the same.
