mainly personal experience. pentocostals here in baton rouge anyway are tought rock music (the beat) is of the devil. they use to call me all the time and tell me we were playing the devils music...<P ID="signature">______________

I guess I'm the ultimate sinner, I don't even listen to Christian music as a rule. Prety much oldies, R&B preferred. Don't think I'm gonna change my musical taste at my age.

Although many Southern Baptist churches are willing to accept CCM in varying degrees, there are still smaller SBC churches who are still anti-CCM, and individual church members or leaders who are that way, and some churches won't do much with CCM except the softer end because of that, which is where the church I grew up in was, and most of the members were pro-SG. The best we could do was to go to an occasional concert, and that usually ended up being softer artists. Most Independent Baptist churches in my area are definitelly anti-CCM and pro-SG.
 
The Southern Baptist Convention at least used to sponsor "Powerline", which played secular music. Does the SBC have less problem with secular music than with CCM? The independent hellfire and brimstone Baptists are a different matter. You'd better get a scowl on your face and keep it there!

The SBC also has a CCM show called On Track, and I think they started mixing some CCM songs into Powerline.

The SBC has never opposed CCM. However individual churches, leaders, and members may have differing opinions. Like I said before, the SBC church I grew up in had enough leaders and members who were anti-CCM that those of us who were pro-CCM were limited in what we could do. On the other hand, the last SBC church I attended until a few years ago was pro-CCM. They had contemporary services, and gave the youth leaders more freedom. I'm sure there were members who didn't like it, but they were in the minority and the church was big enough to keep doing traditional things for them as well.

To me Independent Baptists are like a whole 'nother denonination.

I have to disagree with your statement that the Southern Gospel audience is growing smaller because of age.

Southern Gospel is not just for older people. I'm 28 years old and I love Southern Gospel music. I've been listening to it since I was 13.

There are more and more young Southern Gospel artists. For example, The Crabb Family, Karen Peck & New River, Gold City, The McRaes, The Dove Brothers, Crossway, The Quicks, etc.

The Southern Gospel music industry is strong and growing!

P.S. While Southern Gospel is my favorite, I also listen to CCM.
