Southern Ohio CHR's

I'm about to be a freshman at Ohio University, moving in tomorrow actually. I have a Sony HD Radio I'll be hooking up in my dorm. It has great DX here in Dayton, being able to pick up Cinci and some of Columbus. What does everyone think of the CHR's near Athens?

95.1 WXIL/Parkersburg/Marietta
102.1 The River/Parkersburg/Marietta
Local Spinoff - Power 105 - Athens
I'm hoping to be able to grab WNCI from Columbus, 100.5 WKEE from Huntington, and Electric 1027 from Charleston.

My only concern is the mountains and being in a dorm room. What are your predictions?

I once heard WNCI blasting out of a boom box at the pool at Hocking Hills State Park, so I wouldn't think you'd have any trouble with that unless you have terrrain shielding. I've heard WKEE in Jackson and Waverly. WXIL gets out pretty well; once in a while it shows itself in Dayton.

WNCI gets into the Logan/Hocking Hills area quite well, especially if you are on top of a ridge.

Not much gets into Athens, though. You can get 95.1 and 102.1, but WKEE or anything from Columbus is unlikely. Charleston, WV is very unlikely. Here's my best guess at what you may get from what I can remember:
91.3 WOUB Athens (NPR)
92.7 WHIZ Zanesville (Hot AC)
95.1 WXIL Parkersburg (CHR)
95.9 WJKW Athens (Religion)
96.7 WKOV Wellston (Hot AC)
98.3 WKNA Logan (Country)
100.9 WJAW McConnelsville (ESPN/sports)
102.1 WRVB Marietta (CHR)
104.1 WPAY Portsmouth (Country)
105.5 WXTQ Athens (CHR)
107.7 WSEO Nelsonville (Country)

770 WAIS Buchtel/Nelsonville (Talk/Classic Country)
970 WATH Athens (Talk/Classic Hits)
1340 WOUB Athens (NPR)

WXBW 101.5 "Bob FM" can be heard around town various places
PAY (which is country) doesn't have much signal, nor does 98.3 Logan.

WXIL and WRVB have respectable signals, but neither one is that great of a CHR. If your dorm is lined up with the Hocking valley (towards Krogers) the Parkersburg stations boom in. Around the bend, farther south, (closer to the golf course) the signals are blocked by a hill. In any event, there is a hill between you and Columbus. So forget NCI.

So, after moving in... I'm on South Green right behind a parking garage and with my boombox in my dorm on the 4th floor, I can pickup most of the stations listed above. WXIL is a great adult-leaning CHR w/ good jingles and local jocks; and The River has good imaging, besides it being Premium Choice. I can get WHIZ from Zanesville and they're a great current-leaning Hot AC. Power 105 from Athens is pretty weird. One minute it's Hot AC, next it's CHR, then sometimes it sounds like indie stuff. WNCI is VERY difficult to pickup. In the car, however, I can get WKOV and WKEE at times. Also, Electric 102.7 from Charleston is listenable in the right area. Sunny 93 from Racine is one you have to fight for sometimes, but that's also listenable. WXIL has been my favorite so far, reminds me of an adult Z93. :)

Power 105 = BAD

It's been that way for years and I'm guessing they'll never change.

Small locally owned rural CHR.... It won't change unless someone comes in from out of market and programs it from a town 100 miles away with the same 50 songs an hour like NCI, Z100, Kiss etc all do.
