Southside Steve

You can be at a remote with Steve - you're the one with all the backstage passes and teeshirts....the crowd is still gathered around Steve. Rickman and Willard have a charisma that resonates with listeners unlike any I have ever seen. They take time for every person and make that person walk away feeling special.....I think they actually like their listeners!

Props to Steve... he deserves it. When new management took over 96rock, (Del Core, Buzz Casey, Mike Wheeler), I always felt they didn't "get" what Steve brought to the table. Not only did he bring in a lot of revenue for the company but he was beloved on the streets. None of those guys ever went to Southside remote. I still shake my head at their decision to fire us...(or at least him!) absolutely their loss! I'm glad Steve has found a home where he's appreciated!

Seems like most radio management just doesn't understand showbiz. Animal magnetism translates into listeners and money.
I mentioned Willard because he is the only equal to SSS I ever met in terms of working the crowds. Most on air people are woefully lacking in personal charisma - you just can't "learn" it or develope it - you are born with it. Like vocal talent or physical attractiveness......it's a gift....a special talent.....and many, if not most radio management don't understand it or appreciate it.
 
To the general fan SSS is the guy everyone relates to. He is the John Daly of Atlanta radio. He is drawing the big crowds because he is from here - he seems like any one of my friends. I think he may be the only guy on the air in Atlanta that is actually from Atlanta.

my favorite part about the article is where he steals hullinger's line and calls it his catchphrase. "yeah....come on" and come up with your own!
 
Assuming he stole Hullinger's line, which is a reach to begin with, I kind of doubt he cares. Do you think he wants to break it out doing the news on WSB?
 
This is a really silly debate in the first place, but I'd assume that the phrase has an off-hand collaborative "effort" anyway. Who says Hullinger was the one to coin it anyway?

I don't doubt SSS didn't come up with himself, but he has without a doubt made it his own. Hullinger probably swiped it from someone else anyway.

Hullinger was using it first on the Christopher Rude morning show, but Steve made it his own. Nevertheless, if you wanna see SSS bow up, ask him why he's ripping off the Hul-Man.
