Southwest regional lineup

I've been wondering what stations XM will air from the Southwest. Out of my area, Phoenix, the CC news station is 550 KFYI, with KGME 910 as a sports station. Looking at KFYIs site (I don't listen to them AT ALL) it doesn't seem that they have that much that's local.

You're right to say "stationS" with an S. It just can't be a single station.

KFYI's local shows can be in the mix, but I'm guessing KFI/Los Angeles will be dominant in the Southwest lineup. KOGO/San Diego will be in that mix as well.

The Southwest lineup probably will depend an awful lot on whether ClearChannel considers WOAI-San Antonio -- and the rest of Texas, for that matter -- to be part of the Southwest or the Southeast. WOAI is CC's flagship station, which probably means it will figure prominently in the programming lineup of whichever region it's assigned.

I have a suspicion, however, it'll get tossed into the Southeast mix, just because it's going to be hard to program the Southeast station otherwise. Just for giggles, a few threads down, a couple of us were trying to put together a mythical Southeast lineup, using CC's talkers from Louisiana east to Virginia, from Florida north to Kentucky. That's 10 states, and, frankly, we just couldn't do it without a ton of tape delay or dead air. But we weren't considering Texas to be part of the Southeast -- and it's not, really. With San Antonio, Dallas and Houston in our cluster, it could be done.

It seems like you'd have an easier time putting together a live-and-local lineup in the Southwest, what with Phoenix, Los Angeles and San Diego prominent in your cluster. Down here, we've got a handful of local shows and lots and lots of nationally syndicated dreck.

Just a thought or two ... or three.

Where Does WOAI Go?

Interesting note, which may not mean anything in early April... look at the PDF file of the new channel lineup:

Channel 136 - "Middle America" - has a star pretty much directly on top of San Antonio on the channel logo...

Looks more like Dallas or OKC to me. :) Actually, I think WOAI is a shoo-in for this channel. CC does not have a talk station in Dallas.

Hmmm ... curious, indeed. You know, I never figured Texas as being part of Middle America. (Spare the Mexican border wisecracks, please.) To me, Middle America has always meant places like Nebraska, Kansas, Iowa, etc., although I guess that overlaps the Midwest as well. Whatev' ... sure looks like WOAI won't be part of either the Southwest OR the Southeast.

Also, KTRH...

It's big enough to cover most of Texas, at any rate :)

CC does have KTRH/Houston in addition to WOAI. KTRH, believe it or not, actually does not carry Rush Limbaugh, and has local programming in middays...

Texas is part of ... TEXAS. They are still a republic, you know. :)

I think it would have been unlikely they wouldn't have included a Texas station, but it's not middle America by any means.
