Sox AM/FM Simulcast

With the Globe having an article about the potential bidding war for the Sox rights, just a thought...

What if Entercom, in trying to keep the Sox with EEI, but also looking to give the Red Sox more of what they want, was to do an AM/FM simulcast. WEEI would still be the flagship for the team, allowing its signal to reach far beyond Boston, while at the same time games could be simulcast on 93.7 (or 107.3, though I think pre-emption would be simpler on Mike-FM) so listeners in the immediate area could pick up an FM signal...once EEI-FM in RI gets the Sox rights soon, then the Red Sox could hit both north and south of Boston (93.7 & 103.7) and keep the flagship on EEI...

As I noted elsewhere on this board, were Entercom to have an FM station simulcast WEEI-850's Red Sox games, I think it would be WAAF-107.3.

WAAF's signal is strongest in areas well west of Boston, where WEEI's directional signal isn't strong.

A combination of 850/107.3 would be ideal to cover almost all of Eastern and Central Massachusetts.

WTAG

That would certainly take a toll on WTAG's long-term affiliation with the Sox. I believe they've been carrying the Sox since the early to mid 60s. Early in the 60s, I believe WAAB (the 1440 frequency that later became WNCR, WFTQ, WVEI, and WWTM) carried the Sox in Worcester.
