Sp 12+...No Humble Pie For Us!

Lot's of surprises in the Spring 12+ numbers:

1) KFWhyEye (static filled AM station with a fake studio audience)
2) KEZ
3) KOOL...looks like they're back big time!
4) KUPD
5) KYOT
6) KZZP
7) KMLE...first time we can remember KNIX finishing out of the top 10
8 KSLX
9) KHOT
10) KQMR
11) KMXP
12) KNIX tied w/KT'R-FM which is down from Winter; down from a year ago; and Sports Parking Lot 6~Twenty is closin' in fast. YIKES!!

Maybe this time next year Nurse Jeff and I'll be enjoying that humble pie that the Luvable One keeps promising us!

Pat McBland might need to buy a new Kinetico whole house drinking water system for KTAR. I rather suspect the numbers have something to do with the water quality.

Better yet, call Rosie and Romey and tell them to leave the jambalay at home and out of the control room. It must be the cajun food causing the low 12+ numbers.

Of course, it could be a leaky roof. Someone should call Monty and have him put a Ky-Ko roof on the building. Check with Ed and/or Preston first to make sure it's not raining at 5300 N. Central.

Then again, did anyone check the pie for salmonella? Quick, tell Jay to check the pie for Mexican jalepenos before eating.

It's chaos on Central!!!! Si si puede? Probably not!

I cannot believe this... The quartely numbers are RANCID!!!

KFYI #1 - It somehow makes me wonder if the illigals have learned english by listening to 5-fifty and have been filling out the books in their stolen Identities...
I wonder if Bonneville has chased away all their listeners, with the exception of 2.2?

KOOL seems to have gotten a booster shot with Steve Goddard.

Like I have said before... I will say it again...

Phoenix - Anything can happen and usually does.

The interesting thing is that KFYI and KTAR-FM are 0.1 apart at 14th (2.6) and 15th, (2.5) and KTAR AM has a 2.5 also. So Bonneville has a collective 5 share on the two KTAR's and KFYI has a 2.6.

25-54 rank 6 mid

KUPD
KQMR
KOOL ( the changes in music and talent seem to have worked marvelously... they were #1 25-54 in June discreet month)
KMXP
KHOT
KSLX
KDKB
KPKX
KESZ
KMLE
KZZP
KYOT
KNIX
Then KFYI, KTAR FM, KTAR.

It looks like listeners are starting to warm up to KZON, judging from the 2.5-3.0 spike. I wouldn't be surprised if this momentum continues into the next book.

(((KOOL seems to have gotten a booster shot with Steve Goddard.)))

Steve Goddard IS a great addition...BUT it IS KOOL as a whole. The morning show is a breath of fresh air w/out Bill (did you know I was a pilot) Gardner. Maria Knight and John Michaels are FINALLY able to show thier personalities. Tom Peake...a LEGEND...he's been their forever....still sounds great...and the chemistry on the morning show is honest...you can't buy THAT.
I heart Maria Knight!!!

KOOL is baaaaaaack.

Thank You Kris Abrams...

In all that matters, 25-54, KTAR AM and FM come out the big winner. KFYI is a 2.6, while KTAR FM is a 2.5 and KTAR AM is a 2.5. They now have, over at Bonneville, a nice 5 share 25-54 in the combo!

The 12+ is irrelevant, which is why they give it away.

David,

Do you have any thoughts on what happened with KHOT/KHOV? Not being a listener of this station, I don’t know if there were any significant programming changes that might have caused their drop. If there weren’t any changes of note – do you think it could have been odd diary placement that led to the decline?

I have to appreciate the Doc's enthusiasm for KFYI. The commercial is NOT going to say "...in all that matters, 25-54, KFYI is not number 1", It will say "KFYI is STILL the Valleys #1 news and talk station! And Congrats, KOOL, good work!

And over at CCU, what do they have in their combo?

No it's not...it's bragging rights and about all Nurse Jeff and I can afford! Ever price a Gremlin tranny?

Thanks for the emphasis on 25-54. It is an important demo as far as sales are concerned. This is a real blow with no news and talk in the top 10 in that demo. That's why I question ARB and it's vagaries.

I also appreciate your classroom on Cume and quarter hour, the importance and the translation of each.
Quarter hour merely refers to the lenght of time a listener spends with the station. A small number of listeners can have a huge quarter hour rating.

How does a station go from an incredible May to a less than incredible June? It must be the methodology.

Dr Akbar, I am not yet ready for a slice of the humble pie I offerred you some time back. Have your knife and fork at the ready ye of little faith. Victory is won in small increments and if you recall I said there would be a setback or two. Check David Eduardo's 25-54 numbers. Who suffered a setback?

A few months ago, I looked at the top 50 markets, and in only 3 markets did AM news talk register in the topo 10 (barely). Yet the good traditional news talkers that are on FM, like WIBC in Indianapolis that moved to FM last december, are sometimes top 5.

It's not Arbitron. It is the fact that most everyone under about 45 was raised on a dominant FM band, and have no use for the muffled audio and static and man made interference on AM. The sound sux big time.

In fact, there are three ways to build a big radio station... high cume, low TSL... a CHR. High TSL, low cume... a format like Smooth Jazz in the diary method. Or average cume, average to good TSL, like many light (or is it "lite") AC's. Any of the ways can achieve the same range of share.

How does a station go from an incredible May to a less than incredible June? It must be the methodology.

The diary methodology does not process and release monthlies. 4 weeks is one quarter of the sample, and very error and wobble prone. Only the full boook, wieghted and processed, is of promised sample and accuracy.

In other words, good things don't come in small packages (I am not referring to that phantom Gremlin)... a single month is one third of the sample only.

Would I use salmonela laced jalepenos in a delicious slice of humble pie? Never. I want the taste to be pure.

Pattiwacki, Hi hope you're well, maybe one day we can capture you.

Keep in mind that Goddard was at KNIX during the Spring book not KOOL.

Jay,

What a relief! Stay away from the jalapenos in the pie. Perhaps ice cream would be better with the pie than the jalapenos, no? ;D

The Nurse and I look forward to that slice of Humble Pie (ala mode, but of course!). We're just afraid by the time you can serve it, The Big Apple will be charging $4.50 a plate and gas will be going for $12 a gallon! But you are a man of means and we know we can count on the follow through.

In regards to the Old Gringo's posted numbers, we're very impressed that both KFWhyEye and Sports Parking Lot 6~Twenty did as well as they did for being on AM. We suspect they feed off each other and are keeping Ancient Modulation alive to see yet another day in the Valley of The Yawn.

OK... here is the deal...

I don't believe that will KOOL top out @ #1 in the fall book...
I like what I have seen with them and I'm willing
to bear all and not hold back my opinion that KOOL
will take 2 books to make it.

For me I think they will eventually do it but not immiadiately.

Gas had dropped here 32 cents a gallon in the last 2 weeks to $3.54/gallon
