Spanish Comedies From The 1970's

I wanted to know why Spanish comedies have not been put on DVD from the 1970's like El Chavo,El Chauplin Colorado,Chesperito, and Que Pasa U.S.A??

Que Pasa U.S.A. was originally aired on PBS and premiered in January 1978 and ended its run in 1980. It was a really funny show. I liked the situations everybody got themselves in. I especially enjoyed the grandparents the most. One episode that comes to mind is when Carmen and her friends audition for a soap opera and her grandmother was with them to the TV studio. When Abuela wants to go to the rest room, she accidentally stumbles onto the set of a soap opera called "Lives To Live At The Edge Of The Storm" and when the star of the show comes on and Abuela comes on to the set and gets into a funny mess.

Galavision was the last place I saw Que Pasa U.S.A. and I know that El Chavo,El Chauplin Colorado and Chesperito are on Galavision right now,but why haven't they been out on DVD yet??

Actually, I think I saw some DVDs of these shows for sale at a local Best Buy and Wal-Mart, though they're available only in hispanic markets.

I think I've also seen VHS copies of some Warner Brothers and other Public Domain Cartoons dubbed in Spanish (at least the packaging was) at places like Dollar Tree and Deal's (a subsidiary of Save-A-Lot Grocery stores here in the Midwest) which is also a "Dollar" Store

I remember it well, and loved it. Interesting concept -- a 3-camera live-to-tape sitcom (with a studio audience) produced by a local PBS station (WPBT in Miami). It probably gave both on-camera talent and production people great experience in the format and helped them move on to bigger and better things. I was studying Spanish at the time and, as the show was more or less 50/50 bilingual, no matter which language was best for you, you still "got" at least half the jokes. I almost got to attend a taping of the show when I was in Miami once, but somehow to my regret the scheduling didn't work out.

It was also a very accurate portrait of Cuban-American life in Miami in the 70's, especially as regards the generations. You had the grandparents, who spoke 99% Spanish, were reluctant to learn any English, and thought everything was better back in the old country. Then the parents, who were pretty much 50/50 bilingual and had more or less accomodated themselves to the cultural changes. And finally, the kids, who could speak passable Spanish but conversed much more in English, and embraced American music and culture unhesitatingly.

Not to mention that it was extremely well-written, acted, and produced -- perhaps just a notch below the average network sitcom.

I'm not sure if any of the Spanish channels still carry it, but it still occasionally pops up on various PBS stations, especially in markets with a heavy Hispanic element.
