Spanish in the Piedmont

With the growing Spanish speaking population in the Piedmont, particularly in the Asheboro and Siler City areas, could someone make a profitable go at a spanish language FM outlet in the Triad? I think there are a few AM's that do it, but no real strong regional signals that I know of. There was some talk on the Charlotte boards that The End (106.5) could switch to spanish so that they could bookend both Charlotte and the Triad, but that has looked like idol rumor rather than reality.

A source at Latino Communications (Que Pasa) which has the largest cover in North Carolina through leassed stations, mentioned to me that they are not in the purchase market, because CC will be switching soon one or maybe two of their stations. They will be leasing two more stations by the end of the year and will have different programming on them (now is regional mexican), pretty much like VIVA in Atlanta. Most definatelly an FM in this area will be a big hit against the small broadcasters of the area. Look at what Curtis did in the Raleigh area with " La Ley".

It certainly doesn't help the Spanish AM's in the area when the only two regional AM signals are WSJS/WSML and WTRU. Anyone who goes to Spanish on FM in the Triad stands to make a killing, relatively speaking.

I'm sorry, I thought we were in the United States...
