SPANISH ON 94.9 NOW

Signal is about the same, but I am now getting Spanish on 94.9 FM. It is NOT KQUR Laredo because I went to the KQUR website, and the audio on the stream there is different at what I hear on 94.9 here. This scares me. I hope they do not waste this frequency on another Spanish station. I hope this all part of a stunt. They are saying something now like "EXITOS" and "R COMMUNICATIONS GROUP"

Strong tropo from the SW and W this morning. I'm hearing the same thing on 94.9 ID'ing as Digital 94.9, so I think it's Laredo.

The webstream might run a bit behind the OTA, so it wouldn't match.

Last time I listened, with my shockingly limited Spanish skills, I did manage to hear "el central Laredo" during a commercial. Good enough for me to suspect its Laredo.

I feel the same way - more Spanish language in this city is redundant, they probably have every possible variation on Spanish language formats already on the air here. Anybody putting yet another one on the air is diluting an already limited audience. Why don't they try a different demographic for once - like - say - oldies / classic hits which is not covered in the area and does very well everywhere else. Even a satellite feed would be welcome at this point.

94.9 KHTZ is still silent. Are you sure that was KHTZ before the first time you heard it Old Chicago?

Can not be 100% sure, but based on speculation. No ID's were given, but no promo or spots were being aired either. Only music, and jingles for WABC were being aired, so I was a reasonable conclusion that someone was conduction equipment tests. Did not drive around to see if perhaps it could have been a LP pirate or part 15 station. Will continue to monitor and report.

Doesn't surprise me that KHTZ is silent because of the owner: Roy E. Henderson. He's one of several people/groups that just hold licenses and keeps the stations silent except for one day a year.

"...more Spanish language in this city.." In this city? Gentlemen, why are you treating this station like its a full Class C 100KW stick out of Missouri City? It may reach reach some of southwest Houston, but that's it. At that distance there will be more multipath problems than there will be a good listening signal. Some radios may receive it better than others. When the tropo is favorable, you may hear it better. As far it being a solid reliable signal, for get it. Just because the call letters hint at a possible format, don't count on it. Also, consider Ftballfan previous comment.

I do know of two Henderson stations that are actually on the air consistently: 105.3 KTWL and 101.9 WLDR (local to me; actually in a rated market). Also, his 100.1 WCUZ (local to me) has been on more than off recently. However, he did trash a station that had been a good station for years (WBNZ). Also, none of his silent stations have silent STAs.

He also has a 94.1 in Brenham. Is that one on?

There are more possible formats in Spanish than there are in English.

Of course, like the possible English language formats, not all are viable.

Anybody putting yet another one on the air is diluting an already limited audience.

Limited? In the Houston ratings, about 30% of all listening is to Spanish language stations in the key 18-49 demo.

In any case, this signal has no potential in the Houston metro. It's improved signal barely clips Brazoria County with a usable signal, and touches no other part of the MSA.

KNRG is a good station that he owns in New Ulm, when I'm in the area I listen to it.
