SPANISH POP BACK IN DALLAS

Im so SICK of Spanish Stations......
and there is a Spanish Pop on 99.1

I can't stand that station. The jocks drive me up the wall. I rather hear 101.7 and I only go there for the music. Sometimes stick around to hear a jock keep a listener on the phone waaay too long.

This is only my personal opinion, but I would much rather have Spanish Pop than another Regional Mexican station. As a non-Spanish speaking gringo, I find the pop and tropical styles of the Caribbean and South America far more enjoyable and fun than the various forms of Mexican music, which are so prevalent here in Texas. I was in South Florida a few weeks ago and very much enjoyed listening to Clear Channel's Mega 94.9 (with music by Juan Luis Guerra, Enrique Iglesias, Elvis Crespo, and Shakira).

Of coarse, maybe it was just my Spanish teacher exposing me to Meringue and Salsa during my more formative years.

Of course, that sort of music has about zero appeal among Mexicans. And in the Caribbean basin, merengue and salsa are pretty much 35+ in appeal, as the younger two generations don't listen to it much.

What is the under 35 crowd listening to?

Mostly Top 40 pop/chr, reggaetón, AC.

Top 40 used (1970-1985) to be a mix of salsa, merengue, ballads, pop and US hits. Today, it is more reggaeton, ballads, pop, light alternative with a few US English language hits.
