Spanish Station on 95.3 Near the High-Five?

I am the PD for KHYI 95.3, and I know we haven't always had the best signal and it's something I'm constantly working with ownership on. Lately we've been getting our signal stepped on by a Spanish station on our frequency near Richardson and the High-Five. This morning as I was driving in from Keller, I started getting the interference on 635 near MacArthur. I was weak at first but got stronger the closer I got to the High-Five. They only identified themselves once during the time I was listening and it was early on, so I could only make out a little of it and they said K258... So I'm assuming it's a LPFM on a translator. Any of you radio detective have any other clues about this station? We're probably going to have to investigate and file a complaint as they are stepping all over our signal. Thanks in advance!

A “K258” translator would be on 99.5. Programming is likely coming from out of market.

Just so happens I was in DFW over the weekend, and heard that Spanish language station on 95.3 while driving on I-45 in the south side of Dallas near I-20. Didn’t get an ID but they did promote “LatinoMax” which has some formats in the Houston market.

Could it be K237HG in Cedar Hill? Licensed as all of one watt but running far more power?

Thanks. We will be reporting them to the FCC. They definitely shouldn't be cutting in on us looking at this!

Supposedly K237HG is a translator for KKVI-LP 92.9 in Mesquite. Doubt that is the actual case, but was not in an area where I could check on that.

Radio-locator has it as a translator for an HD subchannel of KBFB. I was in my “other” car that does not have HD capability so couldn’t check that either.

K237HG is owned by Centro Cristiano de Vida Eterna out of Houston. Shall we say they have a rather notorious reputation for playing fast and loose with the rules. Houston is basically the Wild West when it comes to LPFMs and translators.

While on the subject of KHYI 95.3, I notice the station has filed to take its booster station KHYI-FM1 (transmitter in Allen) silent due to “synchronization issues”. Was this an attempt to use the “Maxxcasting” technology? Otherwise there would be a huge clash on the frequency.

I personally know Centro Cristiano de Vida Eterna. They are very good at trying to appear following the rules. My advice is look at the action, not the words. Don't be fooled by them cutting back power to get you to sign off on things. Once you do, it powers up again. Just some friendly advice.

I'll be honest, I don't know if it was Maxxcasting or not, I know we have a Gates Flexiva transmitter that is capable of such, but that's between the owner and the engineer.
