Spanish station shut down

The oldest Spanish station in the State folded down this past Saturday. WNOW-AM was on the air for more that 14 years servicing the Charlotte area. For what I know Davidson wanted to increase the rent, and they weren't able to come out with the capital. At one time they were very strong. Is this the way that am's will be in the Triad? For what I know 1040, 1380, 1470 are leased to a person that picked them up whenever Que Pasa returned them to Davidson. Que Pasa meanwhile is renting 1220 from Valdemar, and a couple in the Raleigh area.

Are the Spanish am's destined to disappear?

What do you think.

Any radio station without a meaningful audience and advertisers who want to reach that audience is destined to disappear. Rent goes up, it is a fact of life. If Spanish AM's can't compete, they will go away!

I punched over this morning on my way to work in Charlotte- 1030 was playing Spanish programming as usual....
