Speaking of DFW DTV signals

What the hey is up with WFAA? They used to provide the weather radar on 8-3. Now it's an all-traffic reports channel. I know they have radar on 8-2, but cramming in the news / sports scrolls is distracting. It's also hard on the eyes for some folks, to look at the "squished" view of the radar on 8-2.

Nice move, Channel 8.

Yep, a little. In the CBS 11 (DFW) thread.

And the DFW TV board rarely gets much traffic, which is why I posted here instead of there.

Wonder how long it will take for WFAA to get with all the cool kids on UHF? KTVT got a rude awakening on VHF with loss of viewers & fixed it pronto.

Channel 11 is still the weakest signal of the VHF stations and weaker than a couple of the UHF stations, at least in south Richardson where I live -- even after rescanning last night.

I installed new connections on the old antenna which is strapped to the chimney of my roof and connected the antenna to the television with new coaxial cable.

Channel 8 is the next weakest of the VHF stations. Channel 4 is the strongest.

Despite the weaker signals, the picture is superb on all over-the-air channels even the low-powered ones.

So why is WFAA suddenly the only DTV station with subchannel programming? All I see on 4, 5 and 11 is their primary channel. What's the point in investing money for the technology but then don't use it?

Channel 5 has subchannel programming.

5.2 is continuous weather with audio from the National Weather Service.

5.3 is something called Universal Sports -- swimming, beach volleyball, gymnastics, etc.

Channels 4 and 11 have no subchannel programming as far as I know.

Maybe I need to run the scan again, but right now if I try to go to channel 5-2, it actually goes to channel 52!

Rescanning should do it.

My television is a Sharp, a gift, and not more than two years old. However, I could never get digital TV with it. All I could figure is that the digital tuner was defective.

So, I bought a box at Radio Shack. Works perfectly.

I rescanned tonight after hearing a radio spot about Channel 11 increasing its power. But 11 is still the weakest of the VHF stations with the exception of Channel 13.

Ahh OK thanks Tony. Eventually I'll get off my lazy butt and do a rescan. Ain't technology great? ;)

You can sit on your butt while doing it.

It just takes one finger. :)
