Currently, Beasley's 96 K-Rock is stunting with all-Metallica, which may lead to an upgraded rock format over the classic rock they have spun for years. They probably realize that The Arrow is way ahead of them in the classic rock game, and decided a switch was in order.
Another station that Beasley owns is WJPT, the standards station. Again, they can look at their closest competitor in the market in terms of the format - easy listening WAVV, which perennially leads the market overall - and execute a switch on 106.3. On 106.3's HD2 channel, they air a format called "Decades - 60's, 70's and 80's". It's quite possible Beasley could just switch the channels on 106.3 at any time. To do so would give Southwest Florida a "real" oldies station, like the one WOLZ used to be until it evolved into what it is today. Yes, oldies these days don't sell, but with standards, Beasley couldn't be doing much worse. And while "Bob" is the market's new darling with their adult hits format, perhaps 106.3 can be fine-tuned to a classic hits format appealing to 35-54. Bob's sudden success proves variety is in demand in Fort Myers.
