Speaking of Ratings.....Hot 106

No one mentioned in the 12+, Jammin 94.5 is beating out Hot.
Providence radio is really begining to suck.

WBZ beating out WHJJ
WJMN beating WWKX
WEEI's "simulcast" beating WSKO.

Does'nt any of the big wigs in CC or Citadel see what's going on?
Boston Stations are begining to take over in Providence.

The sad part of it. Someone may come up with the idea to simulcast more Boston stations in Providence to save money. With everyone leaning towards Boston stations in ratings. Why Not?

ex.

KISS 108 simulcast on 93.3 is one that I can think of.
Go head to Head with WPRO FM.
I know it sounds silly but..........................

Beginning???? Providence radio has sucked since 1990! The only redeeming station on the air is WPRO AM. I personally think every other station in the city should be bulldozed to the ground until someone creative learns how to do Radio the right way! It's obvious that programmers in this city have gone to sleep. Look at WHJJ for a perfect example that fact. They literally just threw up their hands and said we don't give a crap anymore.

Thank God for the internet. We now have the option to listen to stations all over the country who know what they are doing. I'm certainly not listening to the pile of crap this city calls radio anymore. That's for sure.

WPRO is the only exception. They actually have beefed up the News department and have put together a nice variety of programming. They still try... in a city where everybody else seems to have stopped.

One thing Hot 106 should try is to get Joey Foxx to STOP trying to sound "Urban".

Do they realize how fake and stupid it sounds for him to say "Its Hot 106 BABY". plus the other "Terms and Street" words he tries to get across.

It really does sound dumb...just do it straight up and it will be much better.

There is nothing worse than a jock trying to fit a part that he or she isn't

Well here we are blaming WHJJ for all the problems in Providence AGAIN, since you don't work there, you have no idea what is driving certain changes or how the financials are for WHJJ. A few weeks ago, an actual employee posted here that nothing has changed...besides the format....again you people who post on here constantly that "WHJJ is ________" don't have the slightest idea. You take 12+ rating and base everything on that. No one with common sense or any knowlege of the radio business flips out about a change in 12+ especially after a format change....its hasn't even been one year since the change...and I personally hope WHJJ will adjust the schedule to become fully progressive rather than trying to straddle the fence..with some of their shows.

The real problem you have is that liberal radio exists....just exists....and thats sad...Conservatives are going to have to share the airwaves....and theres nothing you can do but muddy the waters..just like your master, The Radio-Equalizer...well AAR,Jones, and Democracy Now aren't going to change and CC will continue to flip stations along with other vendors...Liberal Radio has returned.....like it or not. I just wish you wouldn't attack the people at the station but yet you continue to do so.....its certainly ok if you attack the views but the people are just doing their daily work.

On the other side, based on what I heard here WPRO has two gaping holes in its programming - the morning show (which i dont like either), the morning show (
Steve Kass is a yawnfest) and the drivetime show..(which everyone on this board seems to be in consensus about). Then theres the syndicated stuff which WPRO has no responsibility for....so where is WPRO better than anyone else...Id say no where because they have serious problem with three local anchors.... WHJJ has a problem with one local anchor, Geoff Charles, who is as horrible or more horrible than Dan Yorke. Arlene violet is not a problem for WHJJ. The rest of the programming comes from syndicated resources. So here we are...

WPRO - Red Sox, Rush, Savage, and a bucket of sucky hosts... Tom Betz was right. If WPRO was so wonderful, they would have higher 12+ ratings but they don't and thats with the Red Sox. What a accomplishment....woo hoo!

You guys on here need to quit this mantra of attacking WHJJ for every issue you dont like....its very old ...its almost as tired as Rush's lies and Savage's rants.

> No one mentioned in the 12+, Jammin 94.5 is beating out Hot.

Hot now has a live morning show after running Stern. I don't like the format, but the show is good. I think the station will need a little time to build a morning audience for people who listen exclusively to hip hop & were listening to Jammin. I really don't think people like changes in their morning routine but over the course of time I see The Breakfuss Club doing well.

Forget about it. You may see that happening with sports & talk, but not music. It's never happened before & it won't happen. The average music radio listener is not prone to listen to other markets enough to make any kind of a major dent. I do mainly for formats I prefer rather than stations I like better, but I'm not the average listener.

It's RADIO. I don't need to work there to HEAR it! What comes out of my speakers is Bloody Awful! It's also not my concern what there finances look like. I'm not playing accountant. I'm just telling you their product sounds like CRUD. That's WHY nobody is listening. PERIOD.

I think Joannie and Chuck should go hip-hop and host the 106 morning show. That would be hot yo!! I heard Paul and Al want to move to evenings on Lite, replacing Art, awwwwww how sweet!

Actually...

Before 103.7 broacast Boston's programming as EEI... it broadcast Boston's MUSIC programming as FNX.

. Look at WHJJ for a perfect example that fact.

Ahhh Doc - you must have missed comprehension class at school..

Sky DID NOT BLAME WHJJ for all the problems in Providence radio - he used WHJJ as an example.. WHJJ has become unlistenable..

With two major corporations owning the Providence airwaves, CC and Citadel have their shares of the pie, people will listen whatever they do, for most it's just background noise at work anyway! (Actually through my pension plan I own shares in Citadel and CC, so providing financially they perform well I'm okay!).

Thank heaven for the internet - I can listen to Capital Radio in London, catch up on BBC programming etc.

I wonder if Arbitron ask diary keepers for internet or satellite radio listening habits.. That would be a true reflection of the damage!

Yes but FNX was aiming at Providence & some Boston FNX programming was different. I just don't think people will shop around for an out-of-state station running a format available locally. They may listen out of state for a different format. I know many who listen to Cool 102.

Jam'n 94.5 beats Hot 106 hands down

Hot 106 needs to either relocate their transmitter or get a better signal. Jam'n 94.5 reaches more areas in Rhode Island than Hot 106. Jam'n also sounds ten times better than Hot with more music variety including lots of old school tracks. The DJ's and overall presentation are also much better than Hot 106. Hot sounds way too ghetto.

Problem is HOT 106 can't move their transmitter.
They are wedged in by WHCN to one side, WBMW to another, and WCOD on the third.
WWKX is really sandwiched in to their location.
However it would have been better to have 103.7 become urban and 106.3 become sports, at least that would have been better in my book...

Other Boston Simulcast's WCRI 102.3 on Block Island but reaches near Warwick.
and WMVY in Newport.

Not strong freq's but still playing music.

A list of what I know

Boston's WEEI on 103.7 in Westerly
WBUR on 1230 and in Westerly
WCRB on 95.9 on Block Island
Martha Vinyard's WMVY on a Newport Translator ( I forget the Freq)

Did I forget any?

95.9 WCRI is not a simulcast of WCRB. It runs WCRB's "The Classical Station" satellite service, which is also on 107.5 WFCC on Cape Cod.

Don't forget about co-channel WFNQ (106.3 Frank FM) in Nashua, NH. Alas, in Framingham, we're treated to a trainwreck of classic hits and rap. If one of the two did not exist, Boston could really have a good rimshot on 106.3. But that'll never happen.
