Speaking Of Translators

I noticed Miller has a translator signal for WWKT 99.3 on 103.5. I assume 103.5 is serving Sumter? I heard this translator like I heard 105.9 coming through South Congaree.

Since I made this post, one thing that has been bugging me is that Sumter is already in the main coverage area of WWKT, so why do they need a translator station? If Miller really wanted to spice it up, give Columbia some coverage of WWKT through a translator station. I know once you head east on 378 on Garners Ferry Road, you can already start to pick up WWKT 99.3.

The translator rules for commercial stations will not allow the translator to expand the coverage area of the primary station. I cannot recall whether its the 60 dbu or 70 dbu contour that the translator has to be within.

Miller Translators:
93.3(WICI 94.7 Sumter)
103.5(WWKT 99.3 Kingstree)
105.9(WDXY 1.240 Sumter)

All these stations are loud and clear in Sumter and do not need translators. The Miller stations that need translators are 93.7 Lamar and 93.9 Orangeburg. I believe Miller locked up these channels to keep out new stations in the Midlands. There is still a need for Music of the 40's and 50's in the area like Myrtle Beach and Charleston provide.

Maybe a need by a completist like yourself who would like to see all the holes filled, but realistically speaking that station would generate zero in the ways of ratings and revenue.

Well, maybe zero or near zero in the ratings but it could generate enough for someone to make money on it if sold properly...IMHO.

LOL! Quite a way with words, don't you think? I love Catdaddy. A truer original I'll never know.

HMMMMMM I see ole' Grady Brown was one of the reason that they got a translator... Does Grady or his sun still do their beach show on WIBZ??? Heck for that matter does he still have his hair cutting place over in B Ville??? I remember doing a sweethearts dance for the City of Bishopville and the other alternative was Grady and his son... Needless to say we won hands down on getting that gig... Man what a blast... CC1

I remember when he first started his show... It was like listening to a college radio station... Mic's would be left open, songs being played over the top of each other, but he always seemed to get the advertisers which is what counts... You always knew when election time rolled around because he would disappear from the air till things were over... Gotta love radio and politics... CC1

Was down in Sumter for a wedding Saturday. The 130.5 and 105.9 translators have pretty good coverage. I wish that I could use the countour menthodoloy rather than distance.
