Speaking of WSNE

It seems that they've had a lot of different studio locations over the last few years. More than any other station in the market?

In reverse order:
75 Oxford Street, Providence
Eastern Avenue, East Providence (upstairs, HJY and HJJ being downstairs)
Boyd Avenue, East Providence
111 Dorrance Street, Providence

I know I'm probably missing a few.

And HOW could we forget...TAUNTON!

Before the late, great Outlet Broadcasting sold the station to operators who used what's called "an Arizona Waiver" to duck the expense of doing so, we actually originated JUST-over 50% of programming from Taunton, the station's city-of-license. The studio was on the second floor of a handsome old bank building on that "Back to the Future" looking square downtown.

Bob Hollands did 6-midnight and Patty Costa did midnight-to-6, and we stayed out there Sunday mornings (to top 50%).

All other hours originated on the first floor at Broadcast House, 111 Dorrance.

So we did two-of-everything.

Hard to imagine now, with digital media, and and stations using computers no-more-powerful than the one you're using right now to voicetrack/timeshift/otherwise weasel-programming-in-from-other-cities.

But we kept kosher. Every weekday afternoon, a courier would leave 111 Dorrance on The Taunton Run, toting a cardboard box of program logs, commercial copy, songs-on-cart, memoranda, paychecks, etc.

Imagine?

Holland,

It isn't all that hard to imagine. I remember interviewing at 93.3 when it was still WRLM-and Silvio Paul Vincenzo was PD. Station was out on Rt.44 just outside Taunton. Also took a swing at a spot on Taunton's AM, WPEP, as well. This was back in the mid '80's, I think...

I know the building you mean. The last time I drove by there it was some sort of religious meeting hall. It looks like it could be a good office building so I don't know if it's used only for services on certain days of the week. I think WPEP is gone but am not sure what the full story on that is.

Re: Speaking of WSNE Silvio P Vincenzo.

What a funny guy. I remember working with him at B101. Seemed to be full of it at times but funny. liked hanging out with him while on the air.

Jock,

Not sure but I still see WPEP listed in the FCC's database. I'm aware of Keating Wilcox' plans to take it dark to build out a 50 kW CP for his WNSH. I understand he wants to change from having a directional antenna days to being non directional...at 50 kW, look out, Montreal and Long Island!

I worked weekends at 'SNE briefly in the late 80's and we were on Boyd Avenue at that time. I seem to remember that the building was shared with another business, but I can't remember what it was. Anybody remember?

Thanks.

I worked at WJAR in 1979 and the early 80s when it became SNE....and the station was located on Dorrance Street at the time.

And Bob Hollands made his early mark on AM 970 with The Sunday Morning Hall of Fame Talk about 3 hours of excellent programming hosted by a man who truly loved the oldies!

Bill the Phone Company was on the other half. The studio entrance side also had a auto parts distributor.

Thanks! Now I remember the phone company, but not the auto parts distributor. (I was almost never there in daylight hours!)

I remember WSNE when it first signed on in the mid 60's in Taunton, probably 1964 or 1965. It was WRLM, and was on route 44 in a bowling alley in Rehoboth. I believe a city councilman, Joe McCarthy was one of the original owners.
