special features on CT news stations Tuesday night

Sometime during the 11 o'clock newscast on NBC30, there will be a special tribute to JoAnne Nesti. As you've probably seen in this forum, she's leaving after having served a couple decades at the station. I saw a commercial for the segment, showing her behind all the different anchor desks, and in front of all the different backdrops, and of course all of the really old graphics they've been using over the years since the early 80s. It's always neat seeing this kind of stuff.

At 11:15, WFSB Channel 3 will have a special "winter weather forecast" with a behind-the-scenes look at the weather center and how they make their forecasts. I think they're also unveiling their list of storm names for the '06-'07 snow season. I think this might be an old roll over from when they hosted the New England Weather Service. Not many other stations do this naming of winter storms. Even the National Weather Service limits this to just hurricanes and tropical storms. It'll be interesting to see what they predict for this winter, as I'm not much of a fan of this 50 degree weather.

The JoAnne tribute was great! I wonder how long Gerry will last now that JoAnne is leaving. The ratings have been so bad for years and she was their only draw.

I heard Gerry is not going to be around much longer as well. Joanne and Gerry were quite a team. The Hartford tv news is such a tragedy now...truly unwatchable.

Seeing Joanne golfing in an old NBC logo T-shirt was quite the visual. Brad mentioned being with WVIT since 1983. The also showed the clip of Joanne doing the walk from the tape room in 1990. I had that one on tape at one point. I wonder how Gerry's retirement would be handled since he spent many years first at WFSB?

When is Gerry leaving? Jiminct...you're right, NBC30 has been unwatchable for a long time and there ratings have shown it. It is time for change there. They need to catch up to WFSB and WTNH.

Yea, that was a nice tribute. JoAnne was quite the athlete. I can't believe how young her and Brad were when they started working there!

Can you believe the Channel 3 Winter Outlook and NBC30's Tribute to JoAnne Nesti both started at 11:15 on the dot?
I was like a madman flipping back and forth in order to try to catch a little bit of both. ;D

I caught the tribute online. It was also interesting seeing the "30" logos and how the current one seems like the one from about 1983 or so--italic in nature. The things you learn--I didn't know JoAnne had such a dry wit--including the "Tour" of the inners of 1422 New Britain Ave. And Toby Moffett--YIKES WHAT A FAILURE! And quite the athlete tossing the football.

When WFSB honored Denise D'Ascenzo, they reported on her more insane side in the newsroom.

As one of NBC's greatest employees would sing if he were still around"

"Thanks for the Memory."

I've had cable for 12 years in a row thus giving me access to WVIT for that time. Thanks JoAnne for what you have done and maybe if the bug still is biting Fox 61 could call. You never know.

She must have been on maternity leave because she was on this week.
