Speculation: What's coming to 87.7?

nd2023

Banned
The likelihood of a dance station on 87.7 gets slimmer with each passing day.
Wikipedia says that 87.7 is going to become a god-caster, with a simulcast of KAWZ which already has over 400 translators.
But yesterday for a few hours, it said that Island sold WNYZ to NJN, which will put NJN TV on channel 6 and NJN Radio on 87.7. Right now Island Broadcasting is stunting with a loop of adult standards on 87.7, I wonder if the music they're playing is old enough that it's in the public domain so they don't have to pay royalties.

Can our anonymous source who told us that the Party is over the night before chime in on the future of 87.7?

Terrestrial radio doesn't pay royalties. Only internet, satellite, and cable company channels do. However, they are pushing a bill in which for terrestrial to pay up.

You know, this morning, they said 87.7 was going country, then back to KAWZ, and then NJN, and the Pulse 87 coming back. I wouldn't be surprised if they now said they are simulcasting Dhoom FM on 87.7.

Radio doesn't pay performance royalties but they do have to pay ASCAP, BMI, SESAC, etc a yearly fee. Not sure if the license owner has those clearances or if that was done by the leasees (Pulse/Party). If they don't they are playing with fire airing music.

Ah but don't forget WNYZ is a TV station

tv needs a clearance to play music unless it's one time usage in a news broadcast'and top 40 radio pays tons of royalties to the song writers publishing companies, unless they feel like breaking federal law...

Also, I just realized that Channel 6 analog or digital can't even be picked up anywhere in New Jersey over the air and is not carried by cable because it's an LPTV. That's another reason I don't believe the NJN rumor.

Really...don't matter now. It's Over...

But speculating what the next chapter in Channel 6/87.7 FM's saga is not!

True.....just that don't expect dance to ever be part of that equation. 87.7 in that sense should be expunged from dance fans minds. At this point, relax, take things easy and we move forward.

Now they are saying it's Club Phusion. How in the heck can a TV station simulcast an HD station, not to mention, would Clear Channel announce this since they own that brand?

You don't get it do you? Anyone can put anything they want on Wiki. That's the problem with it. If I wanted to I could go to Wiki right now and put that WNYZ is gonna be airing Hindu Language Rap Music.

First of all, India has many languages, its main language is Hindi. Hindu is a religion. Not the religion that's going to be spread on 87.7, but a religion nonetheless.

It's funny how we're speculating based on an anonymous source on the Wikipedia.

Whats next? Z100 simulcast? KIIS-FM simulcast in like what they did with a station in the Antelope valley/Las Vegas back in 2000? All traffic station? All commercial station? There's a bunch of possibilities! :D
