speculation

My speculation would be something from outside Buffalo. Although short term would be VT from inside.

I don't see a "change in direction," per se, since Kiss gets great numbers. But very few stations have local night shows.

Is DJ Anthony gone? Or just on hiatus during the Covid-19 lockdown? Entercom has been cutting like crazy, and the latest round is wide and deep. The loss of revenue during the current crisis is likely impact them as former CBS shareholders push the iHeart slash-and-burn model.

Anybody outside of drivetime is more vulnerable than ever now. Expect a lot more regional voice tracking, sometimes by the same guys voicing regional spots. They'll be asked to "do more with less" too.

TSL is likely to take a beating with fewer people listening in the car or at work. Even XM is offering free listening, including online. It's gonna be ugly, folks. This is going to accelerate the end of radio as we know it.

Is DJ Anthony gone?

Did you see this?

The thing about Entercom is they're not set up to do regional VT the way iHeart is. Of course it's just a small technical matter.

We're seeing TSL actually going up for certain things, because people aren't restricted to their commute time. But as I said, it's selective.

But ratings don't matter if advertisers aren't there. Stores & restaurants closed means no need to advertise.

That contradicts the early data that subscribers who have the advance raw data service are seeing.

Listening is up, and much of the increase is not to all-talk and information stations... it is to music stations that persons isolated in their residence listen to as an escape from the grim reality.

If anything, this episode is going to show many Americans that radio is a vital part of both information and entertainment needs.

They get rid of DJ Anthony but keep that snob Janet....??
FACTS... Janet lives and broadcasts from Boston where she lives with her new husband... Get rid of her

According to Pergament, Hamilton was furloughed, which means he's likely to be back once the NHL cranks back up. They've already got plenty of coverage thanks to PSE and "The Instigators".

DJ Anthony may be gone. He's been there for 20 years, which means he's making more money than a newbie in a daypart that's rarely staffed these days - even in much larger markets.

Reality is that Buffalo is like allocated a budget for talent, and it's up to them how they spend it. If Janet Snyder - the 50+ year old CHR morning mistress - agrees to take a significant pay cut due to her reduced duties it's possible that they might be able to afford Anthony. I'm not sure her ego would allow that.

James, the PD at 103.3 the Edge(who has commented on other radio stations in the market when warranted), had this to say on his Twitter feed: "A LOTTTTTT of people love DJ Anthony. This (is) all very bad. Seeing the reaction to his departure(and Paul's)lends a lot of validity to what they did for this business."

Every single business on earth is readapting. Restructuring. I know you don’t want to hear my opinion because I actually own frequencies, but the “ demise of radio “ comment is so untrue.

Companies in a good financial situation, meaning very little debt to Wall Street will come out as a hugely affordable way to advertise.

The large companies were in trouble before. They will be in far more trouble now.

I see it as opportunity.

Snubbed by a pretty girl, were ya'?

Haven't heard her since the move to Boston, but there's no denying how talented she is. She's super smooth and major league in her sound and delivery. Has been for a long, long time. Runs a solid show. Of course her value locally is diminished due to her relocation, and it's certainly interesting to see a 55 yr old chick still doing a CHR morning show. lol You'd instead expect it to be along the lines of Jazzy J-Dogg and the Hen House, mornings on KISS!

It's going to take a minimum of a year to get back to the new normal for established businesses according to the economists at Chase Bank and Goldman Sachs. 2020 is a wash. Maybe by 2022. The proposed SBA checks will be great for small businesses, but as of this writing the feds are having trouble getting the money to the businesses that need them. Cumulus and iHeart have already had their kicks at the bankruptcy can, so there's not much wiggle room for them. Too bad about DJ Anthony. The guy was a legacy, but lately, he'd been getting rolled by DJ Wire, the night guy at WBLK. Hamilton has been at WGR since '95 and is a respected hockey reporter, but even for him there are no guarantees. The new normal after the Great Recession of 2008 was that radio learned to adapt. People on the job were forced to do more with less, and they either did it or they were gone. What's going down now is just the next step. On steroids.

I was going to buy a candy bar today, but I didn't have enough money, so I bought a share of Entercom instead.
Stunning. Closed Friday at 83 cents a share, down 36% https://finance.yahoo.com/quote/ETM?ltr=1

Haven't seen a chart that ugly since Citadel. I'm no Wharton grad, but ETM will probably get worse before it gets better. And you ask "At 83 cents, how much worse could it get?" Did I mention Citadel? BTW, Cumulus was off 24% closing Friday at 3.35.

Meanwhile things are pretty desperate at ViacomCBS. Their stock is around $15. Not long ago, it was in the 50s. Perhaps Entercom is dragging it down. Perhaps they have a lot of their own problems to deal with. They're looking to sell Simon & Shuster, and analysts suggest also selling Paramount and Showtime. Everybody is looking to slash & burn right now.
