Speeding up songs

C

CHR

Guest
Was listening to 80's on 8 last night and noticed that a lot of the songs were being sped up. This is something that commercial stations do all the time which really bugs the hell out of me! Has any one else noticed this lately on XM? It's mainly on the 80's channel and the 90's. Why can't they just play songs at their normal speed the way they were intended to be heard?

it was probably toe jam...was it dance or new wave songs..? i havent heard any songs being sped up and i listen daily..
______________
note to tvland...bring back wkrp!!!

For the most part, the Decades channels are programmed to truly reflect how radio sounded "back in the day". I haven't noticed any of the songs (outside of the Toejam mixes) sounding sped up.

I would love to hear more classic 80's jingles (perhaps the Z100 Flamethrower package!!), more talk-up jocks (not too much though), some pumped up audio processing and a little dash o' reverb on 80's On 8--considering that's how 80's Top 40 radio sounded. Pitching the music up 2 percent wouldn't hurt, really...

Anybody know why they can't process the audio on XM/8 like they did back in the day on FM? Is it a technical (bandwidth) issue?

Your hearing things. Stations of the 70's use to do it with a strobe light on the turntables. Cd's??...yes you can speed the pitch with MP3's on an automated software program, but I haven't heard any of the decades do it unless it was Jon Boesche or toe jam.

I'd hope XM isn't pitching up their music. Who are they trying to make sound slugish... themselves?

What's wrong with a little pitching? I guess I'm the only one that likes it.
______________
