SPENCER HUGHES - THE EXTENSION CORD NOT LONG ENOUGH ?

Turned on Spencer Hughes for the first time in a long time this afternoon ( Sunday) to hear him complaining that the phone system wasn't working and that he wanted RKO to run a "Best of Spencer Hughes" program.

First, that in and of itself is an oxymoron. Secondly, he is broadcasting from his basement in Sacramento. Perhaps, if they had a local host....like Jay Severin.... ;-) WRKO wouldn't have these problems.

Tuned out Spencer Hughes after a few minutes. Couldn't take his b....ing and moaning any longer. Does anyone know if WRKO actually put on a tape of an old show?

Hughes gives new meaning to weekend anchor.... more like "weakend anchor" as in pulling down the station on the weekend.

The preceeding was an encore presentation....

....an encore presentation of a thread that wore itself out at least
six times in recent months.

I have come to believe that there is a small, but incredibly loyal,
group of WRKO haters. They just can't resist listening to "talent"
they purport to hate and dedicatedly wear tee-shirts, suitably
silk-screened, made from the hair of long-dead horses whose denuded
corpses they continuously flog while practicing aural self-flagellation.

But I may be wrong....

Maybe it's just some twisted WRKO promotion on the theory that
all publicity is GOOD publicity!

Sure enough, still curious what happened though.

Well, if there were problems with the incoming phone lines for callers, I presume those come into the WRKO studios, and do not forward out to California... so Spencer would basically have nothing to do with the problem, and any host even in the studio in Boston would be unable to take calls.

We return you to your regularly scheduled bashing.

You may recognize that quote. And you complain about critics of Spencer Hughes. I just thought his on-air behaviour today was extremely unprofessional. The pros I worked with and knew would never embarassed their employer on-air.
I've seen talk show hosts broadcast for 4 hours in a non air conditioned studio without ever complaining that they system was down; I've seen talk show host work through worse technical problems without griping to the audience. They just toughed it out and went on with the show. The old ' the show must go' on syndrome.

Hughes just put his ego above all else today. That is unprofessional and I would have terminated him on the spot if I were the GM.

That's just broadcasting 101. I learned that way back in college. When you are on the air, and there is a technical problem, you never refer to it, except to state "we apologize for the technical delay".

Your right, that is bad.

Re: The preceeding was an encore presentation....

Actually, he's complaining about a single critic, namely you, making the same complaint over and over and over and over and over and over.

We get it. You don't like Hughes. Here's the solution: don't listen! But you can't do that, can you?

Maybe they're still pissed off that RKO isn't a Top 40 station anymore......

The Point Is Spencer Hughes Unprofessional Behavior.

The point is that Spencer Hughes was unprofessional. That goes beyond his radical politics. Can't imagine that Mike Savage as BIZ- R as his on-air rants are would resort to that kind of behavior.

Re: The Point Is Spencer Hughes Unprofessional Behavior.

> The point is that Spencer Hughes was unprofessional.

If that was your only complaint then that's what you should have posted. Mentioning for the millionth time that he broadcasts from California as if that some sort of big secret or even something worth mentioning undermines your claim that your only concern was his professionalism. The truth is you have an irrational fixation on the man and are simply looking for things to complain about. Anyone who peruses the history of this board would see that.

Re: The Point Is Spencer Hughes Unprofessional Behavior.

May I politely suggest a remedial reading course. Did you not read the comment regarding Jay Severin? That makes your comment pointless.

Hardly. That you mention Severin doesn't alter the fact that you have a bizarre personal vendetta against Hughes. Besides, anyone who reads your posts knows you're also fixated on the fact that Severin broadcasts from New York.

FYI: No one cares that radio hosts aren't in the physical location of their stations. It's irrelevant.

Re: The Point Is Spencer Hughes Unprofessional Behavior.

This is my last post on this matter because it is devolving into personal attacks but obviously you must care what has been posted before regaring Spencer Hughes because you are repeating it constantly.

Again, the point of the original post was that I believed Spencer Hughes' behavior on-air on Sunday was unprofessional. Period. End of discussion.
Peace.

At long last somebody found my "Easter Egg"! Oh well,
mission achieved!

Now I gotta go create a new one.<P ID="signature">______________

The personal attacks started with the first post in the thread, namely yours.

True, I do care, because I'd like to see this be a forum about the radio business rather than your personal obsession with certain broadcasters.

Well, then perhaps you should have limited yourself to that statement rather than dragging in other issues you've mentioned countless times in the past.

What do I win.... ;-)

An Easter Egg...of the genre that once was called a "Yukon Egg"
(read Robert Service). All you need supply is your mailing
address.

Sounds a bit eggstravagant.
