Spinning the station wheel,Where will Bruce end up?

I have no contact with Bruce at all these days.So I know nothing.Does anyone want to guess where Bruce Palmer will end up Full-time? Let's see how smart we are and who's the closet or dead on.

My first guess will be Lite-105.My second guess and I know Clear Channel is getting ready to go private and he's been fired twice already by them.Something tells me not to totally rule out WSNE for my second choice.
Forget about B101.

For Bruce to end up with a regular fulltime gig at Lite Rock 105, that means someone else loses a gig: David Jones, Heather Gersten, Tanya Cruise, Charlie Jefferds or Art Spencer is their current weekday lineup according to the station's website. Anyone regularly listen to that station?? Was anyone not on their shift on Friday??

I dont know where Bruce might end up but "local" doesnt necessarily mean Providence. Could also mean Worcester or Boston....maybe even southern NH. And late mornings/middays seems to be his forte.

His website now says that "That announcement may be official as this upcoming week." If it IS Lite Rock 105, he may possibly announce it Sunday on his 10-3 shift there assuming that the person he is replacing has already been informed that he or she isn't coming back.

Don't rule out CT or the cape....and why was another thread started on this? This could have been accomplished on the other one

"..And late mornings/middays seems to be his forte."

What would make that his forte ?
Considering all the years he did afternoons at B101..I'd think PM drive would be his strength.

And who's to say he's not ready to try mornings somewhere ?
I, too, am betting Bruce isn't going to be back in Providence full-time yet
..just don't think there's anything opening up around here right now.

My late mornings/middays, I was including "PM drive"....sorry bout that.

Here's something else to chew on:

A year or two ago, Bruce was not only doing his fulltime gig on WSRS but he was also doing Sat mornings on Oldies 103/Boston.

JayBeau Jones just left Worcester (WXLO/WWFX, The Pike/WORC-FM, Oldies 98-9) to program Oldies 103 and Mix 98.5.

There was something in the other post about JayBeau possibly doing PM drive at Mix (currently being held by Greg Daniels), someone else said no he wouldnt be doing that. The statement about Jones programming those two stations included statements about other upcoming changes regarding personnel and programming at Oldies and Mix.

What about Bruce Palmer ending up at either Oldies 103 or Mix 98.5?

CruisinBruce.com now says:

CruisinBruce is back
on-the-air in "Little Rhody."

CruisinBruce continues
to spend time on the
Providence airwaves at
Lite-Rock 105 each
weekend.
*
AND..watch here for
news of a full-time
radio return at another
great southern New
England station:
COMING THIS WEEK !

So that infers his fulltime gig will NOT be at Lite Rock 105. It sort of (and sort of not) infers that fulltime will be at another RI station (as opposed to, say, a southern Mass station). But then again, maybe not. Perhaps Cape Cod is in Bruce's fulltime future. Then again, possibly Connecticut.

But it seems to be either Cape Cod, RI, or CT. Lots of travelling or lots of voicetracking. Any thoughts now?? Anyone? Anyone??

I'll bite.

I Read the website and agree that it doesn't sound like Lite-105 is where he's headed full time. At least not for now.
And becuase of that, I'm betting he's not coming back to Providence yet since the only other real choices are Clear Channel
(can't imagine anyone wanting to be on with them right now) or Cat Country (don't know of anyone leaving).

I'm guessing Mass, but could be wrong.

I still think Lite-105 would be a perfect fit for him in this area, and I'll guess he winds up there someday. This year ? Next ?
Who knows when..but it's gotta happen. Seems like a win-win for Bruce and the station. Meanwhile, I'm betting on the Cape or back to Worcester (can't imagine he'd head for Springfield).

Palmer is one of several Providence-known jocks (past or present) that I like listening to and would like to hear back on in the area.

Here we go again.... another temp job, how long will this one last????

I must be missing something here....

I worked in radio for 15 years, at almost every station on the Providence dial, morning drive at the culmination of my career, and a few in the Boston area.

And granted, you have to have an ego to work in this business.

I have never observed so much hoopdedoo about a guy who has to have a superlative before his name, whether it's "Cruisin' ", or "Mighty", or "Big", or "Smilin' ", in my life.....

Shatner said it best... "Get a Life, will ya, people!?"

And I did catch "Cruisin' "s first break on Lite on Sunday afternoon. Take it from Larry Krueger, Bruce....noone cares...about you being back, or if your father has medical problems (no offense here...) The general public doesn't care WHO is speaking....except for the prize pigs. They just want to hear the music.....

It isn't 1979 anymore..... us "personalities" may have been compensated for appearances, and a few other things....

It's time to find a real job.

Disagree with you there...maybe some jocks don't have anything worth saying on the air, but there are PLENTY of people who still listen to every word jocks say...i see it everyday, and there is LOTS of listening going on.

The jocks that no one listens to are the ones who have nothing to say....its real and it happens, and as soon as station owners realize that, maybe thats when radio can make a turn around

Absolutely Correct !
First of all, what's the difference whether a guy uses a moniker or not ?
(And for the record, he hasn't used the term "Cruisin" either in Worcester or on Lite-105 that I heard)

More importantly..if people aren't listening, it's because corporate radio has worked so hard to reduce listeners' standards by constantly offering lack-luster on-air talent (ie: whatever they can get for the least money). Perhaps it's time that people on-the-air turn that around and over-deliver to the listener, giving them a reason to pay attention again. Just because "it's not 1979 anymore" doesn't have to mean all the jocks should follow each other, single-file, down the toilet. Whether it's talking about chasing your trash barrels down the street in Cranston on a windy day or hitting a pothole on 195, talking about real life things that everyone experiences makes a jock human, endears him (or her) to the audience..and when it has a local aspect..it's what separates great, local radio from face-less, streamlined sattelite.

And personally, I think the comment about not caring about someone's father's medical concerns was un-called for. I think it speaks volumes about the poster. :-[

WOW.....Who Really Cares....I agree It's A Thing Of The Pass

SHAME ON ALL OF US......XM IS HERE TO STAY.... LIKE IT OR NOT.... PEOPLE WANT MUSIC

There is no way that he will be on another Providence station and holding a weekend gig at Lite....won't let it happen, whether it would be Citadel not having him on if he's at B or Coast and same for CC or Cat if he is F/T there and then looking to have a P/T gig at the Trail...to quote Dana Carvey doing his impression of Bush Sr...Nahhh Gahhh Dahhh (translated not gonna do it)

Radio-active is hired!!! Everyone equates personality with humor & if you have the talent & ability to make people laugh, that's fine & you should be taking advantage of it on the air. After humor & pop culture, other than what you're required to talk about (like the station itself), what else is there but the things going on in your life that listeners can relate to? Granted it has to be geared to the audience. I don't think anyone at Hot 106 ought to be talking about having a herniated disc, but chasing garbage pails & hitting potholes are what everyone relates to. When we heard all the hoopla about the December debacle, how many jocks did you hear talking about their own 8 hour drives home? I heard a couple & they kept me listening more than they would have talking about some celebrity bimbo's baby bump. Yes I know it isn't 1979 anymore & audiences have changed, but Salty didn't make a name for himself talking about who shot JR.

As far as Bruce, only going by what recent changes I've seen in New England I was thinking WXLO. They've moved people around since Jaybeau left but their production director is tracking nights on both WXLO & WORC-FM so maybe new shifts at WXLO are temporary. Also, weekending at a Citadel station could point to the fact that he's talking to another Citadel station for full time work.

The Pike/Worcester

Wow....according to CruisinBruce.com, Bruce Palmer is coming to a station with no jocks:

Yes, CruisinBruce
will be returning
to the airwaves
full-time in
February on
"the Pike"
at 100.1 FM.
Watch for the exact
date and more
details on
CruisinBruce.Com
coming soon.

But does this mean as on-air talent or as station voice guy???

I by no means was inferring the audience doesn't want to hear what the jocks have to say. I was basically pointing out the mentality of those controlling programming and how that mentality has carried over to what the audience expects.

Good for Bruce for landing at The Pike. When they first signed on with their jockless classic hits format a few years ago they were supposed to have at least a live morning show but it never happened. Maybe that's the shift. I don't see them going live in any other slot if they don't have a morning show and I don't see them going live in every slot.

I don't know if 100.1 The Pike streams online. But I find reception in Providence to be hit or miss. If he expects listeners in RI to listen to him on The Pike. He better push their website. Along with Lite 105 very hard. Because the average listener (say in Jamestown) will get better reception from Lite 105. Than 100.1 The Pike..

The big issue in this thread goes to the core of radio itself. When corporate radio dictates that personalities talk about 1)pop culture , 2) local content and 3) just about nothing else except for station blurbs and promos, you develop a case of "who cares" among listenership. Let's face it, the pop culture prep we receive daily is also reported on every other radio station and every TV station and in just about every daily newspaper. It takes superhumans to earn "fans" by rehashing what is available, often word for word, by just about every other available media. Local content is the tiny little link that separates terrestrial radio from Sputnik radio. And, if the local content can be intertwined with a personal twist or observation, you stand at least a chance of becoming more than an anonymous voice that interrupts the music. That is the most difficult part of the job....always has been....and, for the most part, is discouraged because personalities who develop a "following" are going to cost the employer more to keep. And that's true whether you're Bruce Palmer, "Cousin" Bruce Morrow or Bruce Wayne. And the audiences have been forced to accept the "shut up and play the music" routine for so long now that, in a way, they have been programmed to not really care all that much about what happens with their favorite radio personalities.
Yes, there are exceptions....please use your Websters to see how that is defined. Most of the rabid fan talk about radio people, with the exception of the exceptions (Stern, Opie, etc) happens here in these threads, not among the population at large. It's very entertaining to read the posts on these boards but very few people, including employed, on air radio people, take much of this seriously if they read it at all.
