splash radio pirate on 99.7?

hearing a strong signal this evening on 99.7 playing carribbean/spanish dance music, strong signal, absolutely stomped all over WJBR in philly and lasted well into south jersey. i assume this is an illegal pirate? gave out the website http://www.splashradiolive.com/ on air and seem to go by that moniker.

There's nothing stopping you from dropping an e-mail to WJBR: "I was trying to listen to your station last night and there was this other station at 99.7 interfering with you. Do you know about them? I heard one of your commercials for something that I wanted to check out, but couldn't get the phone number at the end because of this other station." Be sure to CC: your e-mail to the general sales manager.

Actually I did report it to WJBR. [EDIT] It's always from the same groups of people that start these pirate stations and ruin legal signals. [EDIT]
It's just sad the FCC is a shell of it's former self with enforcing the law on these pirates. They have their own websites, promoting remotes and other events, DJ Lineups and everything knowing there's little chance of them getting shut down. Hopefully WJBR gets them shut down.

[EDIT-inflammatory]

Wow! 1000 watt pirate station! That's more power than most non-commercial stations and even some commercial stations. How far is it getting out and how much damage is it doing to WJBR?
WHHS 99.9 and WODE 99.9 would also be affected, and so will WBHX 99.7.
Expect it to stay on for months if not years unless someone steals the transmitter or it blows up. The FCC has not done much about pirate stations this decade. There are over 20 pirate stations in the New York area, one pirate is 10 miles away from a class B on an adjacent frequency, and so far, none have been shut down. Boston has a few high power pirates that cover the entire city and sell commercials, and those haven't been shut down yet, and have been on for more than a year.

ill check this out in levittown this weekend (if it even goes that far). it aint comin in here in pottsville like all the other philly's do. i even get WJBR here, which i think is better than WLEV and B101

The FCC is overworked and under financed to patrol these illegal FM stations and immediately shut them down.
First step they usually take is to send a letter to the address and tell them to cease operations. Then the next step is to go down the studio or where operation has been traced and they knock on the door telling them to immediately shut down and a following warning if they operate again...they will return with a sheriff and seize equipment.
The FCC's job is not only looking for illlegal FM transmissions....they have to patrol , inspect , issue and allocate other radio operations in the public safety, satellite, Shortwave, Amateur ham, etc. with exceptions like the 225-300 mhz which is military government...they are stressed. It's like seeking every CBer in the 70's that swore , squished, or hooked up a linear to their transmissions back in the 70s'-80's.
It took Radio Free Santa Cruz 8 years operating 24/7 at 100 watts, before they were taking down. This could be at least a 3 month process even if WJBR is on top of it which helps speed up the process.

I think there once was a pirate in the Miami area that was spewing out harmonics/spurs all over the FM dial and even on the aviation frequencies. The pilots reported hearing the pirate station instead of the control tower. That station got shut down quickly.
If the pirate's not interfering much with anyone, they'll be left alone for a long time. Any licensed station on any frequency, not just WJBR, can complain that the pirate station is taking away its listeners (even if the pirate is a completely different format).

If a 1000 watt pirate station on 94.9, not interfering with anyone, had an oldies format, WOGL would be sure to complain.
There used to be a Spanish pirate on FM in Philly that took away listeners from WEMG-AM, and its ratings were down for the time the pirate was on the air. The AM station complained, and many months later, they were shut down. The pirate station went 30 miles each direction.

they have a lot of pirates in south florida nearly one in between each fm station, even with the states help these pirates have been florishing for years doing remotes, even snagging agency accounts. the fcc needs to do something more to wipe them out. thr pirates sre big joke in florida but the joke is on the legal stations

Florida has at least made a step in the right direction. Operating a pirate radio station is a felony and could land the operator in prison for five years.

Just tried it, this thing is booming in here at the Reserve Townhomes where I reside, at 24th and Penrose Aves, but its now Rap and Hip Hop, black announcers and in English....what a signal....

even with law in florida the pirates are still on the air, many for decades. we need to come up with another system

Agreed. The answer is for the government to license micro-power broadcasters as they do in some other countries (notably Australia) as a new class of FM radio station. Of course this will never happen because the NAB and other major broadcast interests would never allow the commission to move in that direction. Heck, just look at how the NAB has done everything in their power to discourage and get the commission to over-regulate LPFMs.

I just got a message from the underground. Oaktree has indicated that he will personally string guyed wires across 63rd St. and tap the 15 trolley high voltage line for the pirate, and will donate a bag of propagation ground plane salt infused with those desirable "solid copper chunks", if he can play with the pirates ionizer periodic log antenna tilt-a-whirl rotator for a just half hour.

You got it, Sam.

Be afwaid. Be vewy vewy afraid.

And I'm adding a hum-buckler to the rotator so I won't get thrown off!
