The Beat was 'good' when it was owned by Jacor, I have half a tape or so lol from 99 when I drove thru.

But when CC took it, it was over. They were syndicated Doug Banks, who was one of my mentors and I didn't mind that, but then VT middays Deja-Vu like half the other middays across the country. (Lame) Then once again, wonderful "sleepy steve's UAC morning show got slapped on the Beat, the station might as well go R&B.

The sad thing is, WHJX Hot 105-7 originally was a great competitor to WJBT, but the owners didn't know WTF they were doing.. how to market it, how to sell it, and soon after they launched the station, they flipped it to UAC. I was mad, because I was trying to program WHJX and would have knocked the Beat out of the ratings. Another opportunity passed by....

Yeah, the owners of 105.7 frequency, Tama Broadcasting, are kind of clueless. They did the same with their Tampa property WTMP and flipped it to UAC. Anytime I see a station operator go the UAC route, they are playing it "too safe" because anybody can do that. However, programming an urban that caters to the 18-40 crowd is more unique and a task to achieve since you have to be very familiar with the market, local artists, and listeners' tastes.
 
Hedgewood really needs to play it safe this time. It would be bad if he ended up investing in too much again and going into a 2nd bankruptcy. I give him extreme credit for trying to be a new minority owner. Unlike Radio One, when they started, stations were ALOT cheaper then. Its alot harder these days to buy radio i think.

I felt bad after Katrina, because KNOU was his biggest property and I felt maybe it could have bailed out his old company until it got damaged in the storm. That's when I knew it was over for On Top.

So what is WHJX doing these days? Isn't the station in receivership out of D.C. and flipped? Yeh I was super upset at Tama, they just seemed to be clueless, but at the same time didn't want help. They really had a great opportunity to trump The Beat.
 
BTW Tama doesn't really exist. Its in a debtors posession out of DC due to lawsuits of predatory lending i guess. Overall sad, Still tama should have take me on the offer. O well. moving on...
 
THE BEAT in Jacksonville is horrible. Listening to various Urbans ran by Clear Channel, they seem not to care much. Example: Albany, GA 96.3 WIZ
 
CC doesn't care.

Did you see the fake scenario that I wrote for KATZ the other month? LOL, remember its cheap = channel. You only get quality out of something if you take the time to invest in a good product. CC doesn't care about the Urban format overall any more.
 
These days CC only cares about the urban stations that have heritage calls that can used for strong billing. If those give them a big return on their "investment" then they allow those stations to have some "toys" for their disposal. See KMEL, WGCI, and WJLB for proof...

Exactly..WJIZ in Albany has been urban since the 1960s. I'm kinda tired of stale radio...ive been listening to Pandora. We need an Urban that play a variety instead of the same syndicated voice tracked rubbish all day. The Beat is awful and WSOL will put you to sleep if you are stuck on I95. Clear Channel Urbans now are Churbans..all their newly launched stations now bills as rhythmic.

Exactly, when was the last time they launched an Urban station? Lately it's been Rhythmic AC.
 
I stay away from the term Churban but anwayz KATZ was 10 year heritage station but i thnk they just gave up overall. which is fine, because Im really sick of hearing Iheartradio on the overnights, ESPECIALLY in market #3 on a friday/saturday night. im not goin to say that its ok to be VT'd on nights, but small markets fine, but not #3. PLEASE.

Is WWPR NYC VT'd on weekend nights?

Not sure, but Clear Channel does a ton of VT on there Urban stations in the South. Savannah and Panama City are 2 cities that do off back.

Oh man its worse than T Roy and Deja Vu its also Shamara Wild Wayne Mr Chase & Golden Girl the "main voices" heard on all 350+ Urban stations across the country every nite.

Why don't CC just go network period. Hire an airstaff of seven people, have a central studio in TX, have the weekday crew and weekend staff and just syndicate every single station across the country. Enough of the VT'ing trying to sound live and local.

Drive from marke to market and hear the same song and DJ, then drive to. Might as well, since its happening already. I went from Milwaukee to Chicago and the same night I heard Wild Wayne on V100 and WGCI only seconds apart from each other. The only difference is here and there they flipped the rotation a little or inserted some spots at different times.
 
so that means 94.1 The Beat in Savannah is fully automated..no live dayparts. I know in Albany Lil D is on in Albany (96.3) and Columbus (98.3)
