I stumbled across your post.

This is a unique look at the Spokane radio dial, because this was right during the transition from AM to FM for music stations. I note that KJRB was still playing music, (apparently), and KREM had gone soft, for lack of a better term. KHQ was still spinning tunes, but that was not to be for long. This entry here is fascinating as it a record of how radio changed soon after.
 
Cool to see this and how radio in Spokane has indeed evolved. In addition to 1380am, there was 1440, 1550 and 1590 on at one time or another in the 60's. 1380 was co-owned with KFKF in Bellevue my Kemper Freeman Sr., usually they did country and I know for awhile had the call letters KPEG. And tried an all-female air-staff at one time too!
 
I started a thread about this a few months back, but never got a response. It appears that 103.1 KCDA was oldies or something like that as far back as 1989, before flipping to country in 1991, but Wikipedia makes no mention of the station prior to 1991. Also, it appears there are some old clips of KICR on Tophour that predate 1998, when did this station sign on?
 
I look at the Spokane dial back then and think "Man, there were gaps on the dial back then you could drive a truck through!" The FM DXing must've been SPECTACULAR. Now it's all just a big mess....on FM namely......AM still has those gaps...Even more so today.....
 
Yep! See 99.9. There is NOTHING until you get to 105.7. I bet KSEA, KPLZ, KZOK and KBRD all made appearances in Spokane at times!

With the exception of 88.5 (too close to KAGU 88.7) 89.5, 98.1, 98.9 and 99.9, 103.7 (too close to KBBD 103.9) and 104.5 many Seattle FM stations do make appearances in Spokane occasionally in the late summer months......
 
I got KMPS, KWJZ [now KLCK] and KBKS over at the top of the Manastash Ridge S of Ellensburg back in April, Aug and Sept 2010. Well over 100 miles over thousands of feet of mountains. Over in Yakima, the stations that made appearances were KMPS, KJAQ [? forget], KIRO, KOMO in Oakville, KING, KPLZ, KZOK and KBKS. Most are 110-120 miles.
I am possibly doing a summer trip back to the Yakima [and possibly Tri-Cities] area. Hopefully maybe I'll see just HOW far Seattle will come in and say hi. Maybe Umatilla? :D
