From All Access:

#1 KDRK (8.2) Mapleton
#2 KKZX (7.6) Clear Channel
#3 Oldies 101 (6.6) Mapleton
#4 BOB (6.3) Mapleton
#5 KISS (6.0) Clear Channel
#6 Coyote (5.8) QueenB

Wow. We all thought Mapleton would ram their properties into the ground.

I hear Coyote still calling themselves "Spokane's #1 Country Station" on the air.

I was in Spokane not long ago and I listened to KXLY-FM for much of a day. They seem to be doing to it's country format what it did for it's AAA format - WAY too much repetition and voicetracking.

I think Mapleton stumbled into this market - literally. But once they got their footing straight, they became a force to be reckoned with.

A friend of mine is an old guard country guy. Cut his teeth in the late seventies and still does a syndicated show featuring old school country, his impressions of KXLY FM were startling. He called it pop country and was even more sour on the on-air presentation. Said it was like a CHR mentality was programming country.

With country and pop blurring lines as they are it was bound to happen. I joked to a friend in Virgina, it's almost gotten so bad the only way to tell them apart is by the attire of the performers.

I understand and see the logic in Mapleton's moves as with Clear Channel. The gang at 500 Boone have their own "unique" methodology which confuzzles me at times. I've surprised they haven't tried to "hip" 920 out yet as that's been the most stable of the radio properties. Props to Nameck for keeping 920 steady while the FM properties have had their ups and downs.
