Spokane's Country Stations

Can Spokane support 3 country radio stations? I don't see any other US markets that can support 3 country radio stations. Cat Country 94, KIX 96, and 99.9 THE COYOTE.

Hey---there is actually if you count 102.3 it's licensed to Coeur d'Alene gets into Spokane just fine and it plays country that leans more classic country....so we got FOUR of them. Each of the big players has one---Clear Channel is KIXZ 96.1 Mapleton's KDRK 93.7 and then the KXLY-group has KXLY-FM "Coyote Country" at 99.9. Can you say over inundated? I knew you could......

Wouldn't surprise me to see 96.9 "The River" flip to something sometime soon.....I never hear them on anywhere and the format has pretty much been a ratings failure at both 99.9 and now 96.9. And there's hardly any personality at all on the station. Sad, very sad. Be interesting to see what it IS flipped to. I have my own ideas, but don't want to see them succeed against the station I'm on 98.1/KISC-FM Mainstream A/C.

I hate to say to you but I do missed Classy 99.9. When I was a student a Washington State University back in the early 2000's I usually listen to either 98.1 KISS-FM or Classy 99.9 instead of the local HOT 104 and Z-fun 106.1. 98.1 KISS-FM was the only Spokane station that I can picked up in Pullman loud and clear. I know back then I used to picked up 5 country stations in the Palouse area. (2 from Spokane, 2 from Lewiston, and 1 from Pullman/moscow area).

Hmmm. Kansas City has 3. Oklahoma City has 3.Salt Lake City has 3. Nashville has 4. But one of them is WSM.

I often read how consolidation killed competition. These are examples of what competition means: Having three stations in a town with the same format. Yes there's less of it now, but is it really a good thing?
