Sponsors and WBYN - WFKB

A post below noted that 'word on the street' was that WBYN listeners would boycott any formwe WBYN sponsors on Frank FM. I was in Lancaster County this weekend and picked up a WBYN 2006 program guide, a slick booklet published annually starting when they were co-owned with WDAC. On the cover is only the 'Alive 1160' logo, which must have made some listeners wonder what was happening even before the switch. On some they've now stuck a gold '1040 WCHR' sticker. Most of the sponsors in the guide are outside of the 1160 coverage.
The guide celebrated WBYN's 15th anniversary, filled with listener stories about how they were upset when WBYO went off and how thrilled they were when WBYN signed on. In Blue Ball 1160 was pretty good in the car but static-filled in the little towns along Rt. 23, probably unlistenable at home. In that area people will go to WDAC instead.

In this case, could a WBYN listener sponsor boycott make any impact in Frank FM signing on sponsors? And can WBYN survive on all new sponsors in the Lehighton area?

The radio station market is so fragmented I doubt there would be enough of an effect to make a difference. Besides, I would also suspect many of the products and services to be advertized on WFKB wouldn't interest former WBYN-FM listeners anyway.

I suspect that most of WBYN AM's bills are paid by the brokered programs it airs. I surmise their operating expenses are low enough they'll be able to get by in Lehighton, though they may be drawing down financial reserves for a few months.
