Sports Animal Adds Another Stick

KITO-FM 96.1, Vinita posted the following on their Facebook page today:

Starting at midnight tonight KITO 96.1FM will began simulcasting our sister stations programming from 97.1FM in Tulsa Oklahoma. I will be creating a new fan page for KITO 96.1 The Sports Animal of Grand Lake.

There is no other programming like this in North Eastern Oklahoma! You will be able to hear OU, OSU, TU, St Louis Rams and Dallas Cowboys plus many other college and pro football games.

The Vinita Hornets will be broadcast on KGND AM1470 while the Pryor Tigers will be heard on KITO 96.1FM The Sports Animal of Grand Lake.

We will also be carrying OU, OSU, TU and Thunder Basketball plus Texas Rangers Baseball.

You will have the opportunity to win tickets to college and pro sporting events as well as local and pro team sports wear.

Tune in and turn it up... KITO 96.1FM THE SPORTS ANIMAL OF GRAND LAKE!

KITO had been country for years... decades, maybe. The Stephens have owned it for a number of years now. Although I think the station was satellite, I assume this will save them some money and get them some coverage in the northeast counties of the survey area.

As long as they don't air the Animal Fodder show. BRUTAL.

Outside of localized sporting events it seems to be a pure simulcast of KYAL.

I heard a promo last night that made me wonder about the strategy. They are claiming that the Sports Animal will be home for Oklahoma Sooners, OSU, AND University of Tulsa. They have the rights to OU on KITO, as it has been there for years. Could they sell that as a viable Tulsa broadcast?

I wouldn't put anything past them, but I think that would be infringing on Clear Channel's rights in metro Tulsa.

LOL! And, to think, "back in the day" they had to almost BEG people in Tulsa to carry OU games! My, times have changed!

Oh yes! KJMM negotiated a bargain basement deal with OU to carry football in the late 90's, I remember.
