Sports Hub tanking in ratings

I just looked at the Arbs, and WBZ-FM has just a third of WBCN's last rating of 1.9. Yikes!

With Kiss closing in on the first 10+ rating since WCOZ in 1981 (ironically Kiss' current brother station Jam'n 94-5; double irony: Kiss is basically WCOZ and has been since 1994 so that people wouldn't get confused between Kiss and Jam'n), it looks like Kiss is ripe for the taking around this time next year, given that the Hub is stuck with the Pats (to 'ZLX next year) and B's (to 'BZ-AM next year) this season. WRKO (with a healthy rating) and WEEI (which is #6 with the Providence FM added) both look OK; Mix lost listeners on the move to 104.1.

They were on the air with the new format for less than two weeks in August. They are a long way off from "tanking," although it's going to take them a very long time to topple WEEI, if at all.

Yeah because WBZ-FM didn't just launch a few weeks ago or anything? (sarcasm)

These days, the number isn't *as* significant and doesn't have as much meaning compared to a few decades back. And as long as they can oversell WEEI, then they are here to stay.

That chart also has WEEI FM (yes, FM, not AM) on the Boston charts, as well as WBZ-FM as charting in June and July. That chart is not correct. It can't be.

It is possible that WEEI-FM (Westerly-Providence, RI) is making a dent in the Boston ARB's. Not so much in Downtown Boston, but rather South of Boston. The signal on 103.7 does cover a lot of real estate. Even my brother who lives South of Boston listens to WEEI-FM instead of the AM side as the FM side provides "real-time" scoring on their RDS signal, as well as other scores in the major leagues at the time. It also sounds a more crisper and cleaner than 850.

Westerly (where the stick is) is de facto Conn. That's about 110 miles.

It's obviously misformatted. WEEI-FM's August rating is attributed to WEEI (AM), and vice versa. This resulted in the two stations appearing in each other's ranking slots.

WEEI-FM appears as #8, and WEEI (AM) appears as #23. They're supposed to be the other way around.

Also, the ratings for WBZ-FM and WBMX are for what was on those frequencies (98.5 and 104.1) since June, regardless of the call letters. In other words, the June/July ratings attributed to WBZ-FM are for WBMX on their old frequency 98.5, and the June/July ratings attributed to WBMX are actually the last two full months of WBCN on 104.1. The August ratings are for the new/current call letters as listed.

It also lists WWFX Worcester as "WWFX-AM". WWFX is 100.1 FM. Whoever put that page together was sloppy.

Doesn't matter. It's still got a strong signal that comes in well in much of the south and southwest ends of the Boston metro, so it can make the Boston ratings.

If I'm not mistaken, the COL is Westerly but the tower is in the middle of the state. That way not as much signal goes into the LI Sound and they add coverage of SE Mass (and a little in MetroWest).

You are correct - the tower is just east of where Ten Rod Rd (state rt 102) crosses I-95 in Millville; relatively centrally-located in RI. With 37,000 watts at 300ft AGL...that gets out there pretty darn good. I've listened to WEEI-FM while sitting in the car at Corey Hill Park (the hill Summit Ave in Brookline goes over). The service contour goes all the way to Woonsocket and realistically WEEI-FM covers up to Rt.128 pretty solidly.

It's a great signal, arguably one of the best regional signals for southern New England.

And don't forget these are 6+ ratings——how many 6 yr. olds listen to sports talk?!? P=)

bostonradio's tweets that Sports Hub will carry some non-Pats NFL action. While WEEI will have the Sun night game from Westwood One, "Compass Media"'s Sun afternoon Cowboys tilt will air on 98.5

http://www.cbssports.com/local/boston/schedules

>>The Dan Shaughnessy Show
11:00 am to 12:30 pm
>>NFL games on Compass Media Network
12:30 pm to 4:00 pm
Listen to live NFL games on Compass Media Network
• NFL Football: Dallas vs. Tampa Bay (Compass Media Network)

>>Hardy and Trupiano
4:00 pm to 8:00 pm
---------------------------------
In this case the Pats game is on a Monday night; suppose though that the Pats have a 1 pm Sunday game.
I'd think you'd get post game talk at 4; and if Pats have a 4 pm game, they'd surely have Pats pregame at 1,
so I don't know how often the (non-Pats) NFL PBP would show up on 98.5. Again WEEI has Sun and Monday
night football. They had the Titans-Steelers game last night, too.

WBZ-FM also has Bruins to deal with, starting next Tue....

true... of course, if you polled how many sports radio listeners have the mentality of a 6 year old... OK, I won't go there :p
