Sports Hub vs EEI

Long time reader, first time poster. (I was silently here through all the wonderful things the Boston board has experienced.. I just never raised my blood pressure to dangerously high levels to post and argue!)

Where are you tuning in right now? Its been about a month since this topic last surfaced.

I also want to pose the question (with the Bruins recent loss and possible elimination from the playoff structure).. where will sports fans turn for off season analysis of B's, Pats, and Sox? There's quite a few weeks where we may only have the Celts playing live.

Will the Pats and B's fans stick with the flagship, fledgling Sports Hub? or flip over to the powerhouse?

In the new competing sports station formats-- how will each advertise its superiority in the offseason? and how will the ratings reflect it? Anybody? Anybody? Bueller?

mainly listen to crimson matches on 95.3, high school football stuff on 95.9

heard a Holy Cross vs Navy game on 100.1 last night, what is that?

This is just an educated guess, but 100.1 and Holy Cross (Worcester) would probably be The Pike, WWFX out of "Southbridge" (really Worcester).
Either that or the kids at WBRS Brandeis are getting mighty ambitious in the sports coverage department. ;D

M&J Rule saturday mornings on WEEI . The Big Show is Great.

Still pretty much with 'EEI except on weekends. I haven't listened to 'EEI on a Saturday since they brought the Mustard and Johnson abortion back. The football show, this year, has turned into a bunch of howling hyenas with way too many inside jokes, plus I hear enough of know-it-all Holley during the week.

I listened to Toucher & Rich, Tanguay and Zolak, and Felger and Mazz a few times when they first started. I didn't like T&R or T&Z at all. I've always liked Mazz, but I can't stand Felger. If the Big Show has Larry Johnson, Butch Sterns, or Smerlas' interruptions are out of control, I switch over but usually not for long. As bad as Lame Larry is, I hate Felger more.

Caught Toucher's rant at Wallach this morning. He didn't quite say 'don't ever bring Felger's name up on this show again,' but it was close enough.
Wallach had name-dropped Felger a couple of times in a two-min span and it was not appreciated. Wallach seemed stunned.

full time on board with 98.5
Would still tune in to the big show occasionally but once they canned Sheppard the show sounds hollow and forced.
It's really suffered from his loss.

Same here. I had actually given up on EEI and stopped listening to sports radio even before the Hub came on line. I just got sick of the bile, the yelling, and the 20 minute commercial breaks.

I think Entercom just re-upped their contract two seasons ago, so it'll be awhile before CBS gets a chance, unless the Sox somehow have a built in back door to get out of their agreement.

I seem to remember that they signed a ten year deal a couple of years back. That was when they shifted the Sox to AM680 but then reversed that decision.

How long until the Red Sox WEEI contract expires? This as I am sure CBS wants to get the rights to the Red Sox for 98.5...

... and then, the beginning of the end of the AM band in Greater Boston shall begin...

A poster today on the front page of Boston Sports Media Watch under "Pats sign Wilfork etc." posted that Felger and Mazz's ratings have declined. It occured to me that there were newspaper stories when they got close to the Big Show, but I haven't read anything in a couple of months. Any truth to this?

They mentioned Sheppard yesterday (with regard to the assault on the Bruins).

'EEI drive time shows --esp D&C-- getting away from sports more often. They are trying to get at least some female audience. But constant crime-talk probably isn't the best way to do that? Yesterday Glen showed his conservative bona fides by knocking the AAwards.

I know Felger is a lightning rod, but after Pete Sheppard was let go I can't imagine that resulted in a boost of ratings for the Big Show.

I have to believe that Felger's act is starting to wear thin, unless he's changed it. After a while, taking the negative approach on everthing gets old and predictable.

The Sheppard situation is still puzzling. The only time slot where 98.5 threatened them, was where they made a major and unpopular move.
