Sports Hub wins Marconi award

CBS has been really expanding its brand, city by city. They started The Fan 92.3 in Cleveland (competition,
WKNR is at a freq familiar to us: 850!). Now they've gotten the rights to run the Pirates (nice
stadium, shame about the team) on their 93.7 sports talker in the city of three rivers.

When the news came about Sports Hub starting, there was a good three weeks notice or so wasn't
there? Entercom should have started to simulcast WEEI on 93.7 or some other freq just BEFORE
the Sports Hub debuted, to blunt the arrival. They did not and now (perhaps content would still be a factor
of course) they are having to play catch-up. Sox in stereo and clear and the various hosts and
callers sounding better (other than Frank from Gloucester who, Ordway noted, sounds the same :) )

I know, right? I mean why would "that" station win an award like that? Named after a man who was a pioneer in the business. I mean really, what have they done? Shot to number one just 3 years, have #1 rated shows, beat the dickens out of a station that has long been established....oh, wait....
 
Meanwhile Howie mentions that in his RKO studios, they're using original Marconi equipment (i.e.,
old and broken-down) while the sports guys at EEI down the hall get the good stuff :)
 
I wasn't paying close attention to BZ-TV sports last night and it was mentioned and I thought 'they didn't say best station "in the whole country" did they?
Then I remembered Roachie works for 98.5 and must have got the tip.

Did you see John Dennis on the Red Sox broadcast the other night? He's lost a lot of wieght. You can like him now. I remember that his weight really bothered you. And plus....he won a Marconi too.

He invented the technology, not the programming. Sports Hub blows. Wow, you paid Bob Kraft and Jeremy Jacobs more money than anybody else wanted to. You win at having more money than everybody else. Not sure that deserves a trophy.

You want to give T&R an award, cool. The rest of the shows on that station? Fuhgeddaboutit.
