Has anyone been happy with the coverage of the Hens making the national championship? I heard more about the Hens on WDEL and was happy to hear something.

I agree. WDEL did a great job. They better covering the game than the Hens did playing it!

So I'm guessing (and I say that because I live out of market now) that, as usual, the Clear Channel flagship stations for U of D sports, did a less than lackluster job of promoting and broadcasting the game?

It's like watching the U of D throw wads of money in to a Clear Channel paper shredder...

If Clear Channel knows how to do anything, it's:

Print pink slips.
Shred money.

The Hens didn't even do as good a job playing against Appalachian State as Michigan did.

I did listen to both WDEL and WILM for news during this past week and both did discuss the upcoming game in their sportscasts, and WILM did promote the radio coverage on both 92.9 and 94.7. Having said that, it did seem, to my ear, that WDEL was more enthusiastic about the UofD game and they did have a link on their station web site that was heavily promoted on air that had pictures and more info etc about the upcoming game. So yes, I'd have to agree that WDEL provided better before the game coverage and promotion (obviously they didn't promote the radio coverage on 92.9 and 94.7) than WILM. I didn't tune in to either 92.9 or 94.7 this past week so I don't know how much hype or promotion, etc, either FM provided, probably more than 93.7 did though, but then again, I didn't listen to 93.7 either this past week, so maybe someone else knows how the FM's promoted the game. Which also leaves the other Wilmington FM's WJBR, WJKS, and WXCY. Did they promote the game, etc?

It is interesting to read this thread and notice that no one mentions one particular Clear Channel station: "1290 The Ticket." Ah, they are Delaware's sports station, right? I know I did not listen to them for even a minute this past week. It never popped into my head to listen to Delaware's sports station for news on Delaware's football team!

I have been listening to Hannity at 3pm lately and didn't think of the local sports talk show on WWTX 1290 the ticket. If I'd have thought of it, I might have tuned in to hear his opening monologue, possibly about the upcoming Delaware game. You're right though, if I want local sports news (Delaware or Philly) I'd tune in to WDEL or WILM before going to WWTX. Their only local info isn't until 3pm till 6pm, the rest of the day is FOX sports radio and Delaware sports probably rarely, if ever makes the cut, even with the U of D going to the championship as most of the nation probably wasn't all that interested.

Speaking of Fox Sports, I see that the Fox Sports outlet in the Allentown area is adding a real (50s, 60s) oldies show mid-mornings. The station used to be adult standards and then real oldies. The station manager says he is responding to "market demand." Clear Channel owns the station. Could something similar might happen with the Wilmington Fox Sports station?

That would be a major improvement in my opinion. One would think that 1290 could pull in more listeners of any demo and sell more spots with a real oldies format than with canned sydicated sports talk that has consistantly kept their station completely off the rankings, even below the religious stations. I'd vote for an Oldies 1290. Hey it could be all from the bird, ABC radio has a good satellite service so they'd not have to hire any local talent, so no extra cost. But even this idea of part time Oldies would be better than what they are doing, from a listener point of view.
