Sports On 107.9 The Link?

A friend in the Charlotte area told me she was in her car last night and tuned to the Link and heard a football game, is this true?

Here's Matt & Ramona addressing their apparent pre-emption on today's show:

Since WBT has rights to the NFL Panthers and NCAAF Tar Heels, 107.9 carried the Tar Heels' tilt with the South Carolina Gamecocks.

You should read Ramona's post on Facebook... Lotta pissed-off listeners!

I guess this will be the last time in awhile that we'll hear sports on 107.9; not only did they re-sign Bob & Sheri, but Matt & Ramona incidentally re-upped this week, as well.

Yes...The Panthers were on 1110 WBT so the UNC Tar Heels moved to WLNK. Not sure if there are conflicts in the future.

Sure would love to see a Charlotte FM flip to sports!

They used to use 99.3 FM in situations like this. Of course, if the games are after dark, people in the west get left out for one game and people in the east for the other.

I can't remember whether they ever did this on 107.9.

When the Charlotte Hornets started their games moved to 107.9 if the Tar Heels played at the same time. Carolina had priority over the Hornets on WBT.

I can't see any changes coming to 107.9. They just signed Bob and Sherri and Matt and Romona to contract extensions. They would not do that if they had any thoughts of changing.

I also don't see a CBS or Clear Channel station changing to sports. Of the sports not currently on FM none of them are going to pay enough to flip a music station. CBS will tell you 610 and 1660 are actually on FM on the HD3s of 97.9, 101.9 and 104.7.

They didn't even say in the Observer they were going to do this. I just looked and both games were to air on WBT-AM and WBT-FM.

They could add an HD-2 simulcast for WBT on 107.9. They have tried this before but did not make it permanent. I think they should. Don't know why they didn't.

I should mention that in the Raleigh News & Observer, when there are two games on at once and WCMC would normally broadcast the third one, that third game is on one of their HD channels. I've never seen that done. Sometimes games on WDNC are on an HD channel too. Which is a good idea at night.
