Sports on CBS radio Monday night

On Monday night, the Phillies were playing at the same time as the Eagles. The Eagles pre-season game was on WIP-AM & WIP-FM. The Phillies were on WPHT-AM and bumped to WOGL-FM. The Phillies are usually on WPHT and WIP-FM. So, it was baseball on the CBS oldies station. So, 2 sports of 4/5 of the CBS stations. KYW was still All News All The Time. Interesting how the preseason football game bumps the baseball game. Is it in the Eagles contract since the WYSP days that they are on 94.1 no matter what?
 
Yes. CBS radio and the Eagles have a contract that all Eagles games (even preseason) must air on 94.1. The Phillies contract is to have every game on FM, and the Eagles can only bump them off 94.1.

NYC has always had this problem. NYC (the market, not the literal city) has 9 pro teams. Of those 9, people actually care about 6 (and one of the 3 nobody cares about is, despite that fact, a championship contender nearly every year). Philly has 4.

But NYC is not simulcasting any team on multiple stations, other than the temporary simulcast between 98.7 and 1050, which is scheduled to end next month when 1050 flips to ESPN Deportes.

What I thought was interesting was that they went to the trouble to create intros etc. specifically for WOGL's coverage - as I would believe WOGL will likely six or seven more games at most - figuring two remaining preseason games plus the Sunday afternoon conflicts in September.

Basically here's the run down.

The eagles have 1st priority on 94.1, as they were able to stipulate nothing can bump them from the YSP days.

The Flyers & Sixers had a similar agreement with 610 WIP, in they had top priority. Eagles games & Phillies games couldn't bump them, but they would often bump eachother, which was okay since they had the same owner anyway.

Now here's were things get tricky. When WIP moved to FM, the Phillies came in, and got a contract that made them overall priority 2, and got an FM guarantee (which is why OGL had their game). This means they bump Flyers & sixers games. This of course angered both the 76ers, and Flyers who thought they had top priority, but the thing is 94.1 WIP is technically a different radio station, then 610. 610 is still sports, and still WIP. 94.1 is WIP-FM...so really CBS could've buried all their games on 610 had they wanted.
 
And over at WPEN, it seems like Sixers have top priority on WPEN-FM over the Flyers because their contract was signed 1st with GM. If there is a conflict between the Sixers and Flyers, Sixers are on WPEN-FM and the Flyers are on WPEN-AM and WMMR.
 
I don't blame the Sixers for leaving right away.
