Sports on FM

Well lets see CBS has flipped baltimore, detroit, and now dallas former free fm to sports. I wonder if they are eyeing phoenix as well. For a sports station to do well I would imagine they would need to have the rights to most of the local games but just tossing it out there if that is a possibility for phoenix.

KT'R Sports Parking Lot 6~Twenty has it locked with not only all the games, but the strongest local talkers. What Nurse Jeff and I think would be interesting is to move the Parking Lot to 98~Seven and leave spillover games on 6~Twenty when not simulcasting. The sampling on Sports Parking Lot 98~Seven would help TMISU's FM talker 92~Three. hmmmm...wonder if the new FM PD knows anything about sports??

Does anyone know what PPM does for sports-talk stations? It seems to me there would be an increase - people who would never write 620 in a diary, but listen to every DBacks game, etc. I would say unless there's a significant increase thanks to PPM, an FM sports station wouldn't be viable.

But what the hell do I know?

(raises parka-clad arm from frigid northeast...)

Point of order, if I may...if TMISU move sports to 98.7, wouldn't "Sports Parking Lot 6~Twenty" properly become "Sports Mountaintop 98~Seven"?

Or does the moniker follow the format, regardless of the transmitter site, thus opening the possibility, someday, of "Oldies Lumberyard 100~Seven"?

(complete, presumably, with stereo lamptimer?)

You are absolutely right, Nanook of the Northeast. Our balmy 70 degree days lulled Nurse Jeff and me into a false sense of confidence in assuming the Parking Lot reference could easily be moved to 98~Seven. Sports Mountaintop or Peak 98~Seven is correct. 6~Twenty remains a Parking Lot as Home Depot, Wal-Mart and hundreds of illegals undocumented call it home.

As far as Oldies Lumberyard 100~Seven goes, we'll defer to Oldiesfan as to whether that is a completed pass or out of bounds. An agrument can be made for Sports Lumberyard 14~Forty as KAZG is the voice of ASU Womens B-ball and one time home of the Cardinals en espanol.

A stereo lamptimer? YIKES!!

After further review, the ruling on the field stands. Fybush is not charged
with a timeout, or a legal ID interpretation...

Except maybe when "KFYI Phoenix" adds the HD2 tag-along to its TOH as
"KNIX-FM HD2 Phoenix." While the analog on 102.5 is licensed as KNIX-FM,
aren't its HDs just "KNIX HD(number) Phoenix"?

Precedent (to the ill-conceived HD ID regs set forth by Kevie and Company)
would be heard over on 94.5: "KOOL-FM, KOOL HD1 Phoenix." Said legal was
last heard in early November, before the 24/7 rotation of the twelve songs
of Christmas showed up.
