Sports Radio in 2006

What will 2006 bring to sports radio in the Middle Tennessee area? The rumblings are bouncing around.

The largest rumor and worst-kept secret in town is that 106.7 will change format. Most believe this will happen whether its the first of the year or April 1st. It will happen in early 2006 according to nearly everyone you speak too.

When this happens, what happens?

Will Joe Biddle work on radio again in town?
Will Blake Fulton work on radio again in town?
Where will ESPN Radio land?
Where will Sporting News Radio land?
Will Brian Mullen bounce someplace (oh my, lets hope not)?
Will John Dwyer pick up a radio gig on another station?
Will this end the court issues with WNSR, ESPN, and Cumulus?
Will Citadel drop Fox and Rome?
Will this open up an opportunity for another station to start programming sports. There is enough programming available to support another station when you consider play-by-play of TSU, MTSU, Belmont, Lipscomb, Vanderbilt women, sounds, and others I'm sure I'm missing.
Will this open the door for WLAC-AM to return to a stronger presence in sports?

Miss any questions?

Bouncing around today was the rumor that The Fan will stay sports, but Bob, Charlie and Trace Harris will take over the afternoon programming.

With their billing and their demo, how can they NOT stay The Fan ????

Just really curious as to why you ask this? Their ratings drag the bottom of the charts, and anything that's ever been programmed on the frequency has had a better showing. Their demo is already well-covered by other, more popular stations. Their billing is just an add-on to the rest of the group. They are facing a lawsuit over the station that they may not win. The parent company, despite some opinions, is at least sharp enough to know they can do better. It seems to me your question is flawed. Can you explain?

Wanted to see if anyone would step up and play devil's advocate. I'm ready for WLAC AM to step up to the plate and maybe grab Rome. Looks like it might be RIP The Fan. Can't say they didn't try.

Cumulus LOVES ESPN. They put ESPN on their stations WHENEVER they get the chance. I doubt they would throw in the towel with ESPN considering the lawsuit problems that they caused with WNSR. The Fan will stay all-sports with ESPN
