Sports Radio Ratings

The numbers surge for 98.5 stuns me; rather than gradual, October to November leapt in two key demos. It can't just be all Pats; it has to be related somewhat to the staleness of EEI. I think they agree -- David Patten on the Big Show means something -- less DeOssie on a Friday, for example? Also, I can't remember the last time I heard either Stearns or Burton with Ordway. Are they waking up?

David Patten was excellent yesterday. I had no idea that he was so well spoken and articulate.

They might be smartening up, I haven't heard Larry Johnson in a while either. Now they should work on more careful screening of the callers. Steve from Fall River, Angelo from Everett, Frank from Gloucester, et al don't elevate the quality of a show. They don't have to take all calls, do they?

I heard like 2min's but I think it was Rivers (not Patten).

th ey don't have to take all calls, do they?"

They're scripted in. They must think it's a net-plus? I've noticed Felger has a few lame-@#$&* that I hit the preset to get away from too.

Everybody on 98.5 could be better and they still had a great Oct. It would be interesting to see what they could do if they really had their act together. But T&R are on the right track.

Agreed, Patten was awesome.

And yeah, calls are great for night time, but during the day when you can get great guests why bother with calls. This is why I often would rather listen to a national ESPN feed than a local show (even though I'm a homer of all homers) cause I love hearing good interviews with experts over a dumb-ass regular caller (though I will stop anything I'm doing to hear Frank, just because).

It was David Givens not Patten on the Big Show Friday and I agree he was good. I still like weei better than 98.5. I'll take Dale and Holly all day over Gresh & Zo. I can't stand Felger so by default I would listen to the Big o. I give 98.5 the edge in the morning and evenings.

That is a backhanded compliment if I ever saw one! I picture Sheriff Buford T. Justice saying "You sounded a little taller on the radio".

There are some articulate wide receivers in the NFL. They don't all fall under the TO mold.

I actually saw it as more of a "I have friends that are wide receivers" comment. It's kind of one of those things that paints Bostonians in less-than-flattering light.

It's more of an "I'm surprised when I hear an articulate football player" remark. Has anyone listened to Joe Andruzzi, Fred Smerlas, Troy Brown, and a lot of the guys that they interview on Mondays and Fridays. I barely remember this guy(in fact I got his name wrong) I had no idea he was so well spoken........I never heard him speak before.
